We had the good fortune of connecting with Chink Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chink, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with music. I was always decent at sports but I was never big enough or tall enough to go far with it. I first got the idea to actually start writing my own lyrics after me and my brother saw this Usher Twix commercial but when I first started writing of course I was terrible but the more I practiced the better I got. I think I was around 8 or 9.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think the key factor in what sets me apart is my lyrical content and how I choose to deliver it. A lot of the “Baltimore sound” sounds the same, it’s very gritty and gangsta but for the most part that’s a lot of the artists’ stories. I also come from that background of being around a lot of violence and money makers but I don’t choose to let that consume my content. I open up in my music, I’m not afraid to be vulnerable. You can’t be the toughest person all the time and I think that’s what allows me to connect with my fanbase on a personal level.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well first I would take them to get a “chicken box” which is just wings and fries from either JJ’s down the hill or I would take them to Erdman shopping center. I would go to Sunny’s instead but their under construction. Then I would probably take them to a Raven’s game because it’s nothing like seeing Lamar Jackson play in person. After that we would probably go over west to chill on the strip with the homies. The rest of the week would probably be spent shopping at Towson mall, getting a good crab cake, and hitting the casino.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my cousin Matt who recently passed away. He was like a big brother to me. From the first time he heard me rap he was my biggest supporter. Every time I had to go out of town to perform he was right there with me. He was honestly the first person to tell me I could go far with the music. He passed the day after my birthday. I miss him a lot.
