Meet Nicole Bradley | Author, Publisher, Account Media Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Bradley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a creative thinker and writer, I am always thinking of ways to create and make an impact on our society. I wanted to use my writing skills and creativity to create a book series that would be designed to boost self-confidence and educate children of all ages about the importance of healthy sibling relationships and relationships all around. I also wanted to create a book series that promotes diversity and inclusion.
When children from all different backgrounds read books that represent different abilities, beliefs, skin colors, and cultures, this helps the world to change its attitude toward those differences.
What better way to do this? Turn a personal hobby of mine into a business and create a publishing company, Triple M Publishing to self-publish a book series that highlights my own African American children and their very own personal sibling and family relationships.
From this, The Adventures of Maddie & Mack was created. The Adventures of Maddie & Mack: The Big Sister Blues was my first children’s book published in 2019 followed by The Adventures of Maddie & Mack: Maddie The Boss published in 2021. The Adventures of Maddie & Mack: I Can Be Anything will be the third book from my children’s book series and is slated to be released sometime in 2023. This book will be the first rhyme book in the series.
I have chosen to go the self-published route for this book series because as a mother of three, it has become my mission to introduce a diverse range of children’s literature to my children. However, through my research– prowling the internet—I found that the mainstream book industry still hasn’t caught up with the needs and wants of a family like mine.
Recognizing this, many BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) children’s book authors are going the self-published route. —and many of those books are high-quality and engaging.
Ultimately, one self-published diverse children’s book at a time will make the world a better place, where everyone is accepted.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I am not working at my 9-5, I am making my mark as a writer and on a constant mission to spread literature to all children everywhere. Writing has always been a passion for me.
Outside of my current book series, The Adventures of Maddie & Mack, I self-published my first book in 2008, a book of poems entitled Heartfelt: A Collection of Poems. It is a collection of poems from my High School and College years.
Writing has always come second nature to me. However, I never took my talent seriously until I was a Freshman in High School. My English teacher at the time pulled me aside and told me that she had submitted the essay that I wrote in her class to the school newspaper. She told me that my essay was amazing and was newspaper worthy. It was her acknowledgment that sparked my true interest in taking my writing further. From there, I became a writer for my high school’s newspaper my entire high school career.
After high school, I went to Hampton University and majored in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Marketing. At Hampton, I also wrote for the university’s newspaper, The Hampton Script.
After graduating from Hampton, I went on to work for many innovative media and television companies such as CNN, BET, and Katz TV Networks to name a few. These companies all have helped me with gaining knowledge and expertise in the world of Journalism, Media, and Communications.
Over the years, I have joined professional groups such as Advertising Women of New York (AWNY), the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) to name a few. These organizations provide an environment for professional networking, mentoring, and training.
In 2022, I completed and received a graduate certificate in Storytelling: Narrative Tools and Applications from the NYU School of Professional Studies department. Some courses at NYU included Fundamentals of Storytelling, Multimedia Storytelling, Screenwriting, Feature Writing for Print, and Digital Media to name a few.
The Journalism, Media, and Communications industry media industry can be very challenging, so I suggest constant education and keeping up with industry trends, networking, creating a professional community where you can vent and share in safe spaces, and never giving up.
Currently, I am doing what I love professionally while incorporating my love for family and providing literature to all children everywhere. I look forward to establishing myself as a writer in other avenues such as screenwriting, and editorial features, and securing a literary agent to continue to publish children’s books on a larger scale.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to God, my husband, and my children. My family has truly motivated me to become a better person. As I mentioned earlier, I want to leave a legacy that lives way longer than my physical being. We will not be on this earth forever, but I want my work and my impact to live on for many years after me.
I would also like to give a shout-out to Hampton University, my alma mater. At Hampton, I learned that as a woman of color, I can truly do and become anything. Hampton has given me the confidence that is needed in our society. Shout out to all the HBCUs. HBCUs truly provide supportive environments for underserved communities.
