We had the good fortune of connecting with Konica Cherry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Konica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I honestly never had plans of owning a business. I started selling skincare products as a quick side hustle during the covid pandemic. Each time I would create and produce products I would sell out. I started selling small soap cubes that I created for acne out of ziplock bags. The soaps were 2 for $5. I knew after my 3rd consecutive sell out that I had created a foundation for a business that would later become an infrastructure. I didn’t know how to run a business I had to teach myself. The only thing I knew how to do was create a high quality product and exchange it for money.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I built my business foundation by being me that’s what separates me from other businesses. I show up as me in any setting professional or unprofessional and a lot of my customers show me love and support because of how genuine and humble I am. I don’t allow owning a business to control who I am. I want to see everybody win. I feel like my passion and my purpose is to inspire others. I’ve used my skincare business to build a foundation where I can teach other individuals that they can do it to. I just recently released a EBOOK teaching others exactly how to secure stores to offer your products and services. I want to leave this world knowing I inspired someone to follow their dreams. I’m working on another book release expected to be available in the spring that’s created for children who want to learn how to create and run their own business.

Each time I complete a goal I set a higher goal for myself and that’s what I admire the most about myself, I am always challenging myself to reach another level. I feel like I can do anything.

People often ask me how do I stay as motivated as I am or how do I find ways to challenge myself as much as I do and honestly my success is a result of pain. When I’m going through things or I’m in the process of healing I find peace in creating. I find healing in my accomplishment. Owning a business allows me to have time to myself but it’s also therapeutic. Inspiring others is my therapy.

Throughout this journey I’ve learned a lot. Within the last year I’ve relocated my business at least 5 times. Moving from location to location just to have enough room to produce. The biggest thing I have learned this year is that you have to find a way to thrive in any environment.

Each time I step in a room,
Each time someone buys a product
Each time I shake someone’s hand and introduce my brand I want them to know exactly who and what I stand for and that’s being a owner of not just a business but a infrastructure that will inspire and help other people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My aunt Tarra set the standard for me. I didn’t have anyone else close to me who had accomplished as much as she did. I describe myself as an serial entrepreneur but she’s the real serial entrepreneur. Anything she has ever wanted to do; she’s done: mentoring, coaching sports, writing books, owning a youth empowerment organization for young women & now doing real estate. It’s so many things she’s accomplished the list goes on. I got my drive from her I felt like if she could do it, I could do it to. She always tell me I inspire her but her inspiration is what got me this far.
