We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Dawson-Jarvis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was in a yoga class one day and the teacher said if we are comfortable to stay there but if we’d like we could try a variation that was more complex and immediately I thought to myself “I can’t do that” but then right after I said to myself “Let me at least try” and after trying, not only was I able to do it but it was easier than I thought it would be.

After leaving that class, I asked myself, where in life am I playing small because I think I won’t be able to do/accomplish something and if I could do anything before I pass from this lifetime, what would that be?

I landed on building a brand…

What should our readers know about your business?
We got here from a lack of representation in the wellness space and also culturally, we do not see BIPOC people seeking out mental health services.

It is definitely not easy and continues to be a challenge in changing people’s view on vulnerability and mental health. However, we continue to show up despite these challenges and our hopes are that eventually, over time, people will warm up to the fact that holding things inside and not tending to them is not conducive to a balanced life.

There are many lessons that are learned along the way. Theoretically, we know them, be patient, continue to show up, do your best, don’t get attached to outcomes, and the list goes on. The real challenge is in the practice. Doing these things day in and day out for an extended period of time while things unfold.

We want the world to know that better is always available. A better world, better communities, better culture, better individuals. We are all capable of making a difference and the place to start is with yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Montreal summer are incredible. The most difficult thing is trying to fit everything into the trip but here is a list of must-dos 1-Grove Campus Yoga festival
2-Jazz festival
3-Comedy festival
4-Hike and sun set on Mount Royal
5-Sushi Momo

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that are worthy of being mentioned here, from high school guidance counsellor to Huey Percy Newton, the co founder of the Black Panther Party.

Ultimately, I would say anyone and everyone who is trying their best to live a good life (according to their definition). Who is kind and compassionate and doesn’t accept things that aren’t right, regardless of who is enforcing it.

It is because of the belief in a better world and the sacrifices it took to get there that we are here today and able to enjoy what we have. it is our job as a people, culture and society to continue to push things forward
