We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynne Moyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lynne, what role has risk played in your life or career?
So many things are said about risk: it should be calculated, mitigated, avoided, or taken only when worth the cost. Ironically, the only real way to know if taking a particular risk is a good idea, is on the other side. That’s what makes it a risk and not just a change.

In business, risk is how you move forward. If you are overly cautious, other people (or other companies, competitors) will take the risk while you wait on the sidelines. And while sometimes that can save pain in the short-run, it may hurt us in the long-run. The leaders are the ones out front getting scratched up, but also taking new ground: first.

Risk can still be an educated decision. Best case scenario, the potential benefits far outweigh the risks associated with a decision or change. Yet even that best case can be deceptive; the more conservative our mind becomes about risk the more we can be tempted to stay back with the pack where it’s safe.

In my experience the best risks are the big ones: to the extent they could also be labeled ‘a leap of faith.’ That’s what it took to get my business fully off the ground. Having one foot in and one out, or a side hustle, is not enough to move fast. And in the market we’re in today moving fast is the only way to move if you want to stay upfront.

To launch something that has never been done before, and to see something no one else has seen before, risk is the only way.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The best thing I’ve done in business is put others first.

Those we lead can tell if we care about them, or if we only care about what they can do for us: that’s a big difference! When I focused on caring for those entrusted to me, and to put them (as people, not producers) first, that’s when things took off. That’s when our company began to double in size.

Leaders should care when people come and go from our organizations. We should care when someone on our team is going through a personal issue that makes it hard for them to even get themselves into the office on a workday.

How we lead and how we build matters more than what we are building, because it’s people that will remember us, not products or profits.

Leading with your heart, not just your head, makes all the difference.

When we lead from the heart, we are leading from the place of greatest contribution we can offer. Who we are is our competitive differentiator in this saturated world. And the best part is when we model this for others, they naturally take up the invitation to do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are based in Atlanta so our ideal week would likely be filled with sunshine, great food, and possibly a float down the mini-rapids of the Chattahoochee River.

Georgia is known for its amazing amount of trees and trails, so from a morning hike with a cup of coffee to an afternoon up on a cliff overlooking the city, there is no shortage of things to do. Although known for barbecue my favorite cuisine here is seafood: we aren’t far from both coasts in Florida and South Carolina.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Shoutout goes to Matt Moyer: bestie, husband, and business partner. He’s the Integrator that helps me remain a Visionary.
