We had the good fortune of connecting with Rico Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rico, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to increase my revenue per project and be able to buy insurance to protect all ventures.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an Artist in many ways. I currently reside in Atlanta, GA. I was born with the ability to draw at a very young age. Years later, I went to school for commercial illustration, which during the time attending school led to using my hobby of playing records at parties in the trending scene of Ybor City, Tampa to get better at the craft of Djing as well as combining my art skills to create advertising for many nightlife ventures at numerous shows and events.

I’m a perfectionist, so practice, dedication and persistence all play a very important part in my daily routine.

I can honestly say I’m proud of the great people I’ve met in my life, those who have inspired me to keep the dream alive. To be successful in anything you do and to apply yourself on whatever path in life one takes.

Through my journey in the arts combined with music, I’ve been able to travel to nations and continents which I would never have had an opportunity to. Just when you think things are slowing down, the universe throws you a curve ball and you’re back in the game. The key to my success has always been hope, persistence and the constant belief that I can pursue what I enjoy doing on a daily basis.

I make things look easy today, but learning things well takes time. Challenges are always there, from visa requirements for entering different countries to technical gear issues as the world progresses. The key to overcoming challenges is always to plan for the worst outcome so that when the time arrives you’re beyond confident of the task at hand.

People in life are quick to assume that DJs are just people who get paid to party and responsibility is non-existent. I can honestly tell you, in order to be a real traveling DJ, it takes lots of discipline, you have to battle all the temptations that nightlife circles on a global scale have to offer, including cultural differences from country to country. Once you’ve been to too many places the likes of which I’ve been blessed to visit, it becomes a humbling experience. Countries like India, Ghana, Nigeria, Bahrain are very different to America. We take plenty for granted.

One thing that I encourage everyone to do is travel. Traveling to different places in life empowers the human experience, you really begin to learn how great life really is. As far as my brand is to connect people through music. For instance, being an open-format DJ, I can introduce you to music from all regions of the world and the very best music that, regardless of translation, you can also feel.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends visit Atlanta, I like to let them experience the diversity of this beautiful city. From its numerous parks to the elegant dining establishments it offers. I like to start the evening at my friend Ahmed’s restaurant on the northside, Pharaohs Palace Restaurant & Bar.The food here is authentic Mediterranean and the vibes are endless. You have to try the hookah with friends as it’s just like in Egypt. For a stroll around the hub of the city, I show them downtown Roswell, GA always good vibes at Rock’N’Taco from here to Alpharetta, where we go for round two at Mercantile Social. They usually have live musicians and it’s just a whole vibe. If my friends happen to be younger than we do the city and stop by either Josephine Lounge or Compound, both venues usually have the urban vibes on lock. Once they settle in, I then take them onto the bigger perks of the city, The Battery. There are always good times there. We usually grab a bite to eat at Super Pan, then we hit Punchbowl Social for a few games and if it were in season, I’m able to pull off a round of tickets so we can watch a game live. Another treat, just prior to covid was a walk at Centennial Park, tickets to The Coca Cola Experience, CNN and if perhaps I got family in town with young ones we gotta do the Atlanta Aquarium, these never dissapoint and friends and family always have a solid time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe people today should read books by the Dean of Personal Development, Earl Nightingale.

In any venture in life, the main thing is to believe in yourself.
