We had the good fortune of connecting with Alona Cajuste and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alona, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from Orlando, FL. My upbringing in Florida has impacted me greatly because there’s something so raw yet beautiful in the places I’ve lived and I try to bring that same beauty to my work. Orlando really shaped me into the artist I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer that curates images and series in the form of editorials, portraits, branding for small businesses and influencers, and sports photography for a wrestling promotion outside of Atlanta. My journey began while I was working as a stylist in school for Fashion Design. I quickly realized that I wanted to create editorials while simultaneously providing a safe space for women to shoot. This journey has not been easy but having my Dad’s voice in the back of my head has pushed me to continue. After 16 years, I have learned that art is subjective, not every project will be received the same. In learning this, I stopped placing value in the response that I get to my art, instead, I continue to create in a manner that is true to me. My ultimate goal is for the world to know the genius that lies inside of me. I would love to collaborate with more talent in Atlanta so that I can share these concepts with the world. (Book me!)

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was taking my best friend around the city for a week… I would first just drive around the city and let them take it all in while taking photos of everything. We would eat at Slutty Vegan because I stan Pinky, drive out to McDonough for Haitian food and drinks at Tambou lounge, catch a vibe at Rock Steady, oooh, Ethiopian food at Desta, the Salmon and Sambusas! The hiking trails outside of the city are some of my favorite places because they all double as my personal studio. When visiting Atlanta, I think it’s important to visit the historic sites and eat where the locals eat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my husband Michel. You have believed in each and every one of my crazy ideas and I am beyond blessed to have you by my side! My children have motivated me to create in a manner that is both fearless and bold. Thank you for being Mommy’s cheerleaders!
