We had the good fortune of connecting with Monnica Hines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monnica, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success in both my professional and entrepreneurial journey is my integrity. Integrity is one of the most sustainable personal traits one can have. In my business it represents transparency, consistency, customer service, and willing to admit when an error is made and quickly correcting it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. It wasn’t until I was a Senior in high school and was afforded the opportunity to complete an internship at a local school that I realized teaching, at least in the traditional setting was not for me. I was heartbroken to say the least. It took me years to figure out what I actually wanted to do for the rest of my life. Believe or not, I found my dream job while temporarily doing customer service in a call center environment. I despised the phone calls but I loved providing great customer service. I had an intuitive manager (those are the best type of leaders) who saw potential in me. He worked with me before and after my scheduled work times and after 2 years on the phones, he recommended me for a Learning and Development role. I fell in love immediately. It was like teaching but for adults and in a corporate environment. I had more control over the content but most importantly the outcome of the programs I trained. I am happy to say that I have been in this field for over 14 years and currently the Head of Learning and Development for a Manufacturing Company. When I first started Beauty’s Wellness my goal was to provide skincare solutions for those suffering with skincare ailments such as acne, eczema etc. I also knew that I wanted to teach people about the ingredients I use as well as show them how easy it is to create your own skincare using common ingredients. I started offering soap making classes as well as a host of other classes. I was in my happy place anytime I got to combine my love for skincare with my love for teaching.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love living in Atlanta, mostly because there is always something to do! If my friend comes into town for a week, they already know that we have to find time to give back through volunteering! We would either pull up on Catholic Charities of Atlanta and teach an English class one evening or spend a Saturday with Habitat for Humanity. All of my friends know that I love eclectic, unique things so we would need to head to Five Points and then catch some historical vibes in the West End. We would hit up all of my favorite food places such as Sun in my Belly and Poor Calvin’s and we would definitely swing by Dekalb’s Farmers Market for some fresh baked goods! Ohh I almost forgot about Marietta Fish Market. I love nature so I would take them on a hike up Stone Mountain and take a 2 hour drive to the Lavender Farms. Heck we may even head North to dig up some crystals and other gems. Before they leave we would have to spend a full day at Jeju Spa and visit one of my favorite Himalayan Salt Caves!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many people to thank but I will keep it simple and thank my early supporters. These are the people who purchased from me when I didn’t have a website or label for my products. These are the people who shared my products with their friends, family, and co-workers. These are the people who will continue to support no matter what! I am forever grateful.
