We had the good fortune of connecting with Urmi Hossain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Urmi, what do you attribute your success to?
The essential factor in my success is my tenacity. Every step, every goal I had in my life was achieved through my perseverance and determination
For instance, one of my short goals for 2022 was to publish my own book in 30 days and that’s what I did. I set this SMART GOAL for a 30-day plan. I sat down and every day, I wrote a little bit so that my book was completed within the allocated time. After 30 days, my book was self-published.
Self-discipline and tenacity are key skills everyone needs to achieve their goals.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been working in the financial services industry for six years. I started my career in finance in 2016. It all started by joining a financial services company. I stayed there for two years and then moved to another company where I worked in compliance. For a good five years, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. For me, every work experience was a trial and error and gaining the experience and skills I needed to stay in the industry. The biggest challenge came later during the pandemic when during the great resignation, I was also looking for a job. I went through tons and tons of interviews, always getting rejected for god knows what reason, until finally after a year, I was holding three job offers in my hand, one of them being the job of my dreams which I finally accepted.
What I learned from this experience is that rejections are redirectioons. They give you clarity about what you want and what you don’t want. They shape you to be more resilient and tenacious and indeed that’s what happened with me. The company I work for now is a company I wanted to be part for the past five years and now I finally achieved this goal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a coffee lover and a foodie. Some of the most beautiful things about Montreal is that they have a lot of cute coffee shops. They create the most soothing and pleasant experience. You can try a variety of coffee to an assortments fo paistries. They have coffee shops of every kind: Italian, French, Iranian and this is what I love about Montreal that is so multicultural in every aspect. In terms of restaurants, you can try so many different cuisines and get a taste of home: Portguese, Peruvians, Italian, Indian and more. You can never get tired of them.
There are two places I would bring my best friend to visit: Ol Port and the Mount Royal park.
Old port in the summer is a different world. First, because of its architecture and monuments, it has a very Eruopean style. Every summers, they hold events, market stalls, food streets, and play music and shows. Everything just creates a magical moment
In terms of the Mount Royal park, I feel as Montrealers, we are so lucky to have this park because you can easily do a hike and reach the top to see the most beautiful panorama of the city while also enjoying some ice cream or a good cup of coffee

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my friend Zarha. She has been an essential pillar in my life in recent months. She is a supportive and encouraging friend, constantly pushing me to try new things and explore myself.
Not only has she been a friend, but also a mentor and a guide. Some of the successes I achieved so far are attributed to her because she has been my cheerleader. She empowered me in every step of my life.
