We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenneth Cohen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenneth, how do you think about risk?
A risk is really just an opportunity. While I feel like taking risks is essential, I value managing the risk more.

Not all risks are equal and sometimes they are not even known early own but learning and preparation can be buffers. As a media specialist, my process to understanding lighting is similar to the process of taking risks in my life.

With a variety of types of light, light modifiers, different power outputs, and so on it was overwhelming to understand what to use and when to use them. At one point shooting indoors felt like a risk because I did not have complete understanding of light.

Taking time to educate myself on lighting techniques and understanding natural light is the only thing that calmed that anxiety. This also gave me the foundation to commit to become better prepared for any lighting scenario and that there is a tight relationship between risk and preparation.

I take that same approach to life. I fall into rabbit holes fast if I’m looking to understand something. I consume a lot of content and I consume it constantly. It could be a podcast one moment, a streaming series the next, and then I’m stuck on YouTube watching videos on color theory, 70-20-10 rule and anything else that puts people to sleep. Learning is my second nature response to knowing

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a media specialist, currently focused in photography. HOA, House of Asylum, is a media company focused on making your concept tangible.

We all have a super power. I know my super power is connecting with people’s passion. Hearing a client’s voice raise in excitement when they speak about their upcoming event or a bride speaking about how excited she is to marry her spouse motivates me to create content that will encapsulate that emotion.

From event content, corporate content, small business content or more my goal is to give out content that you and your audience can’t stop looking at.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from Chicago, Atlanta is really different. If anybody from the city ask me what I love about Atlanta I always tell them it’s an entertainment forward city but it still has a lot of nature spots, so you get the best of both worlds. So I think I would give them a mix of that.

One day we would probably go to Stone Mountain. I know it’s not Atlanta but we don’t have nothing really like that around Chicago.

Pediment and the belt line are go tos but the Palisades trail and the bamboo forest(if you can find it) is a good spot to take people.

Social house ATL is another favorite spot too. They do whisky/wine tastings and more.

I got some friends that like to create with their hands like I do so bear and honey candle would be a spot

333peterstreet is another gem, they do open mics, art shows, etc.

My friend Victora hosts Hood Healing Poetry event that aims to create a safe space for poets share their works,I know that they would enjoy seeing that as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have plenty of responsibilities but pouring into my younger siblings and I is what they value the most. What they pour into us is not always what we want but the older we get we always know it’s what we need.

They serve as a battery pack when I need that it extra motivation or push. Always there to be a council but still never afraid to be honest when my approach to a situation may not yield results I want.
