We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhiannon Owen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhiannon, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I have found again and again that most important habit for success is to continue learning. This means that I continue to be teachable, and I continue to be open to failure. Failure paves the way to success, and it is rare that anyone gets something right the first time they try it. So I view failure as feedback for improvement when I’m learning something new. When I hit a plateau or a roadblock, that’s a signal to me that I’ve gotten too comfortable with what I already know, and it’s time to learn a new perspective or skill. When I stay teachable and open to feedback, the sky is the limit when it comes to success!
What should our readers know about your business?
I began the path to Inspired Paradigms through yoga, working with students and clients not only on poses and breathwork, but also through emphasizing yoga as union. While yoga practice is certainly beneficial for fitness and wellness, it is more than moving the body or calming the mind. Yoga is the union of mind, body, soul, and spirit; it is the union of attention with the present moment; it is the union of the individual with the world around them; it is the union of light and shadow; it is the union of effort and ease. Yoga practice has been invaluable in my personal and professional journey, and I bring the physical practice itself as well as the quality of union to my work with clients.
Inspired Paradigms itself began as paradigm architecture, working with clients to build mindsets and worldviews that are empowering, while honoring, celebrating, and utilizing the spiritual traditions that resonate for the individual. Spirituality to me is the recognition that none of us is an island—we are all connected to something bigger than ourselves, whether that’s community or a transcendent universal source of life. My coaching techniques help clients and students to tap into their unique, personal power as part of something bigger than their individual selves. I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the power of belief, and I have spent my life learning various spiritual and non-spiritual belief systems. My own spiritual and wellness systems range from prayer and meditation, ritual and ceremony, to tarot, astrology, and energy healing as well as Earth-centered practices. While I enjoy teaching clients spiritual practices that are new to them, I find that being open to working with the belief systems a client brings with them (whether spiritual or not) allows me to effect the greatest positive change in their lives. Seeing a client break through their supposed limits while honoring their authenticity is so rewarding!
Getting to where I am now has required hard work, but there has been a quality of ease to it. I find that when I’m doing what I am truly passionate about, the path unfolds before me. Whenever I get to a place that feels like I have to exert willpower to move forward, that tells me I’ve lost my footing and it’s time to find my passion again. I find this passion through creative expression, and working with artists, writers, musicians, dancers, and otherwise creative people is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work. No matter how many times I see it happen, I continue to be amazed by how easy, how simple it is for my clients to create fulfilling lives when they follow what inspires them. As a coach, I love helping people realize their own potential and begin living inspired, full, and joyful lives!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love being here in Atlanta, the City in the Forest, for all the green space we have. Some of my favorite places to meet with both friends and clients are our beautiful parks. The bamboo forest at the East Palisades is one of my favorite spots to hike to. There’s something almost magical about it. I also love visiting the Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary, outside the perimeter to the east of the city. It has been remodeled and reimagines since the new owners took over, and I appreciate their sense of responsibility for the critters in their care. The bunny range is always a big hit.
For all things metaphysical, I recommend Eclipse Over Roswell, a professional and personal home away from home. They offers classes most nights (some of which I teach) and psychic fairs twice a month (some of which I attend as a reader), as well as gifts, books, cards, and supplies like candles, crystals, and herbs. The atmosphere is intimate but open, with classic rock on the radio, and owners who greet every visitor with a smile.
When it comes to food with a bonus experience, the 57th Fighter Group is a great spot. I love to sit at one of the big windows overlooking the PDK Airport runway, watching the planes fly in and out. There’s tons of other great food in Atlanta, from fine dining to food trucks. A standard Atlanta spot for breakfast is any of the Flying Biscuit locations, but I particularly love going to the midtown location and following up with a walk at Piedmont Park. For those who enjoy gaming Battle & Brew in Sandy Springs is always a good time.
Besides that, there are so many great places for entertainment and art, from The Fox, to The High, to Dad’s Garage, and the Aurora Theater. There’s always fun to be had by walking through Little Five Points too!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank Janet for reminding me that the path to self-realization never ends. Thanks to thank Damon, Joe, Ismael, and the rest of the Self-Concept group for broadening and deepening my understandings of the creative power of my own mind. Thanks to Brendan for all the encouragement and support. Special thanks to Ciaran and Alistair, for demonstrating what authentic self-expression looks like, for both modeling and teaching me patience and empathy, and for consistently reminding me to play.
