Meet Alex Lewis | Director & Cinematographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since school was never really my thing, I needed to carve my own path in order to become successful. I did not have a knack for Math or Science neither was I ever particularly outstanding at anything useful other than being a skateboarding, class clown from a lower than average income family. The successful career driven life wasn’t really in the cards for me. As my 20’s started to roll by job after job becoming more stagnant and boring, less fulfilling, and disappointing I started to take notice of successful people around me and on the internet. I knew I needed to do something different, something that was intriguing and challenging. Working hard was never my problem it was always focusing my attention on one singular goal is what I struggled with. Chasing a successful career in an artistically driven industry was calling my name, a way to express myself beyond words a way to connect with people without feeling inauthentic. Finding cinematography has saved my life, it’s pointed me in the right direction and given me positive forward energy. It gives me a reason to push and try harder every day, to learn and stay motivated.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a video creator, I started my career as an assistant shooting and editing weddings, events, and small productions for the local talented artists here in Atlanta, GA. It’s been a very tough and rewarding journey. There have been setbacks and tons of self-doubt throughout my entire journey of becoming a self-made businessman and entrepreneur. I believe what sets me apart from others is my desire to succeed, to be great at what I do, and to never stop learning. I personally think every single artist offers a unique touch and perspective into their industry, it’s just about being vulnerable enough to express it. I’ve learned through building my business to keep putting one foot in front of the other, take chances, and invest in your creativity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is full of incredible restaurants, nightlife, parks, and recreational areas. I personally enjoy walking around my city of Downtown Woodstock, it’s perfect for pets and families and is full of great food and local breweries. You can find very unique gifts at all the cool shops amongst all the other fun activities here in Woodstock.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mentors deserve all the credit. They might not even know they were my mentors, but I feel safe to say if it wasn’t for these few men in my life I would never have started my journey into my career. Jonathan Nye, always gave me a chance, believe in me, and noticed how much potential I had, when I could not see it myself. Allan Minter, who helped me increase my knowledge of people and business, of how important it is to help others and always show gratitude to those who mean the most. Kevin Hursh, who showed me the ropes and explain down to every detail of how to become successful in my current industry. These men mean the world to me and I hope that I can show my gratitude by passing it forward in the universe. Oh yeah, and Echart Tolle books helped me a ton!
