We had the good fortune of connecting with Ifie Natasha Brandon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ifie Natasha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business came as a result of necessity. I’ve been an entrepreneur in some capacity for about five years. Five years ago, I quit my job to write and realized I needed to grind if I was going to actually make money. After grad school, I decided to get a job so I applied to several – and heard from none of them. Eventually, I realized, I needed to go back to what I knew.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Write Pieces is a creative consultancy that helps small businesses and creative entrepreneurs find purpose, tell their story, and impact communities. I am the creative director, writer, and content strategist – basically I am the team. I use my poetic voice, gift of connection, and my study of ‘story’ to help amplify the authentic voices of those I work with. The biggest lesson I’ve learned in doing this work is to keep going even when I get overwhelmed, unsure, and fall into the cycle of imposter syndrome. Every time I’ve stopped and tried to find something else, I’ve always found myself right back where I started. I care about authenticity and authentic stories. I want the world to know that whether you’re an entrepreneur, a creative, or a small business owner, your authentic voice is what connects you to your tribe. Your authentic story is the only story I want to tell.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My first stop would be little five points. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city. It’s become my safe haven on nights I want to getaway and enjoy food at Little Five Pizza. It’s where I got my nose pierced for the second time AND the place I got my first (and second, and third…) tattoo. I love their various international spots and music stores. I go there to buy my sage and candles and I’ve done some shopping at a few of their thrift stores. Little Five is my fave. I love walking down Peachtree in Midtown. The blocks between SCAD and 14th street are my favorite. We’d take a peek at the Museum of Design and sit outside Colony Square. We may hit Sunday nights at Bonfire ATL. I love being around creatives and bonfires, and music. There are vendors with good food and a lot of people who just want to have a good time. Lastly, we’d hit Edgewood at night and walk down the street watching guys drive by in old school cars, bar hop, go to Edgewood Pizza (I like pizza) and enjoy the music and the people hanging out in the street.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have helped me along my journey but I will have to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Xavier Brandon and two of my good friends Ro and Takia Lamb. Between encouraging me when I’m down and giving me opportunities and connections; I would NOT be where I am without them.
