We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I decided to start my own business I saw an opportunity for me to create a space and place within society that would allow me to become the best and most powerful version of myself. I thought about all of the times I walked to work, praying to God to allow me to be the type of women that did business that child could see an example from, and that I would have the opportunity to impact a lot of lives.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have come to realize that being set apart can be in the skill, but is most definitely in the experience. I love creating an experience that allows my clients to remember JessicaRacquel as a brand, extension of grace and beauty, and overall a relationship that will always last with integrity.

I have gotten as far as I have by remembering one vow that I made to myself. I knew that I had experienced many transitions and had never completed the goals that I’d initially established concerning the cosmetic/beauty industry. I vowed to myself to never quit on this no matter what! I have dedicated myself to developing my craft, educating myself on business, marketing, systems, plans, and pushing myself to be consistent in my actions in order to be recognized.

This has not been an easy journey as a makeup artist, working to build influence and impact. The hardest thing has been recognizing that I don’t get to be a typical makeup artist. The way that I am built as a woman and business owner led me to start coaching as well because my voice is an important feature in my business. My audience looks forward to my words of encouragement, wisdom , and education. I have had to work through all of the voices that say I cannot, I will not, or that I hadn’t so that I can do what I love with power & passion.

The most major lesson that I have learned is that you have to be able to see beyond yourself in business and in life. You have to care about people, impacting people, and you have to be willing to stand on your core values to diversify and step out of the box that your industry.

I would want the world to know that JessicaRacquel I didn’t start this journey feeling like a diva, I didn’t have luxury items, all I had was a talent & a desire to see women healed instead of broken. I wanted to see them walk-in in their most feminine power instead of dreading looking in the mirror or walking into the meeting wearing their uncertainty. I started this journey with a thought, a hope, and a talent that no.one could take from me. I know that many if you understand that position, don’t be afraid to try, that is why I am here with the opportunities that I have today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Spending a week with a friend would be dope. We would visit the hot spots and the historic spots. Monday we would visit chef Tams underground kitchen. She is an awarded chef and her spot hits.

Tuesday we would go into downtown Memphis to visit the national civil rights museum and the Loraine motel where Dr. King last stood

By Wednesday we would shop in Germantown at the luxury outlets. I want my friends to visit in style and go home with style. We would lunch at firebirds restaurant.

Thursday we would enjoy a night of live music at my friends restaurant and lounge K3 studio cafe

Friday we would visit the concourse building condominiums and shopping area. The is a live art gallery throughout the location, a movie theater inside, and nail spa.

Saturday would be all about the roof top parties at the Madison hotel in downtown Memphis. By Sunday We would connect with more friends of mine and chill, before my homie has to return home from this mini vacay. Our last stop would be Salt restaurant and lounge where we would dance, eat, drink, and make connections.

In between those moments we would chill and kick it old school with more people that I cherish.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out the owner of Memphis Makeup Artist Team Angel Johnson, the owner of The Branding Architect Cortesia Oxford, the owner of Black, Pretty, & Paid University Jalynn Jones, each client that allowed me to serve in capacity for their needs, and most of all, shout out and major thanks to God! He put all of these individuals in my path to bless me and grow me on this journey.
