We had the good fortune of connecting with Makayla Harrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makayla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
During the summer before my senior year, I realized that I wanted fun unique Senior themed shirts. I can up with a few designs and made shirts and people were really interested. I started Eleace’s Art with a Snapchat post and a google spreadsheet to keep track of orders. The response that I received really made me realize that I can use my creative spirit in order to help other people bring their creative ideas to life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The current main focus of my art is custom apparel designs. I have made shirts, hats, jackets, etc. I am most proud of the growth I have experienced over the past few years. I got to where I am by researching, experimenting, and listening to feedback. It has not always been easy. At times it has been slow and challenging, but I always found ways to preserver. Along the way, I learned patience, understanding, and resilience. I want the world to know that E’leace’s Art is a developing brand dedicated to helping people realize their creative vision.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me in Atlanta I would plan the perfect day. We would start off with breakfast/brunch at Atlanta’s Breakfast Club before heading over to the Georgia Aquarium. For Lunch, I would take them to The Wing Bar in East Atlanta Village and have them try the Honey Hot Wings. After we would check out the Trap Museum, go shopping, and finish the night off with a movie at Starlight Drive-in Movie.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My peers from high school at The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts were some of my biggest supporters and a lot of my first customers. My teachers helped shape me into the person I am today. With their motivation along with family and friends, I Had the courage to make the move to Atlanta and revamp my business. My mom is also the reason why I got into my business in the first place. If she had never bought the supplies needed to get started, I might not have gotten to the place I am now.
