Meet Alex Cody | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Cody and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
That all started with a genuine childhood dream. My mom gave me a notebook that was full of her prayers for me, and also filled with memorable childhood quotes that I said when I was very young. In that notebook, she documented a specific moment when I was 3 years old. I was watching my older brother perform in a Christmas program at church. My mom wrote down a quote that was obviously the launching pad for my career. It reads, “…and with a fire of determination in your eyes you said, ‘I can’t wait ’til I’m up on that stage.’” And, at the ripe age of 3, my career was born. The first play/musical I ever saw was a VHS of Mary Martin as Peter Pan. I still have that wonderfully worn-out VHS tape to this day, and I will always cherish it. That VHS inspired me to perform weekly “shows” in my living room for my family. I even sold tickets, and I sold out every show!

My family is a huge reason I chose to pursue an acting career. My whole family is my biggest fan club (and my grandparent’s best-friends: the posse). Without the support and encouragement of my family and close friends, I wouldn’t have pursued this career. I am deeply grateful for everyone in my life that has continued to encourage me. If I ever win an award, my “I’d like to thank…” portion of the speech will be unbearably long.

I also pursued a creative career because I truly never wanted to do anything else. Three-year-old Alex knew what she wanted, and she pursued it. I went from adorable living-room shows, to Auburn Area Community Theatre, to the stage at Southern Union State Community College, to the stages at The University of Alabama, to a year at Birmingham Children’s Theatre, to an apprenticeship with Georgia Ensemble Theatre, to multiple web-series, then short films, and finally, to feature films. I just had my first red-carpet premiere for the feature film, “Until Forever,” in Atlanta a few weeks ago. I have a fantastic short film coming out sometime this year, titled “Hindsight Services,” in which I met my future husband, who happened to be playing the opposite lead…as my husband. We’re also both heading to Virginia this fall to work on a horror feature, literally two weeks after our honeymoon. I feel so blessed to be continuing in my film career with my fiancé, family, and friends by my side.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
To the very best of my ability, I want to be a beacon of joy on every set on which I have the privilege to work. I want to make those around me laugh and feel encouraged and loved. I want to start every day thankful. Thankful for what I have, not fixated on things that I don’t. I’m not going to say that getting where I am was easy, because I care about putting in the work, but I will say that I have been very fortunate in my career path thus far. I haven’t been stressed about finding the next job, because it will come when it is supposed to. I’m trusting that each step will happen at the right time. In the meantime, I will apply for roles, give 100% with callbacks, fully commit to every booking, and continue to live a life full of fulfillment that goes beyond my job. I am grateful that my pursuit of landing acting work has, so far, been a fun adventure and not a dreadful burden. If I don’t get the part, I wasn’t meant for it. If I do, I’m thankful, and I get to work!

The biggest lesson I’ve learned recently is: I am not a victim of my circumstances, because I always have a choice. My reaction is a choice. I understand that emotions are not always within my control, but the choices I make in response, are.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, and this may sound lame, but just come to my back porch. This is the south. All we need is a stocked fridge, a cool evening, and good conversation with the crickets providing the ambiance. Pair all of that with the babbling creek behind our house, and you have the ideal evening. While we have some nice restaurants, hiking trails, and breweries around here, my favorite place to be is on the back-porch with my fiancé and family.

A week-long trip often consists of us staying at the lake house, basically doing the same thing we do on the back porch…but on a pontoon boat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, fiancé, and close friends (obviously).

When it comes to acting specifically, that’s an easier list to write: Kim Hirt, Michael Williams, Seth Panitch, and Lowrey Brown. I greatly respect these talented individuals, and I’m thankful for the ways I was taught and encouraged by each one of them.
