We had the good fortune of connecting with Bred Hampton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bred, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is Sacrifice. You have to be willing to give up things you like for things you love. Every sacrifice brought and still brings me closer and closer to my goals and dreams.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always an eye for photography or at least in my mind photos that I thought “Looked good”. I was one of those kids that bought CD’s for the music of course but also for the artwork booklet. I never in a million years thought id actually buy a camera. In 2017 One day at work I was sitting at my desk and said to myself, Im going to buy a camera today. The rest is history. Everything I learned was self taught. A mix of real world experiences and internet tutorials and that’s something Im proud of. There’s something about the power of trial and error that can really take you the next level. It wasn’t easy getting to where I’m at today. I would work 16 hour shifts then go and do photo or video shoots. Some of it was unpaid but that’s what comes with trying to grow your brand. I understood early that I would need to sacrifice money and time for experience. I want the world to know its never too late to try something new. If you have an itch, Scratch it. You never know how it could change your life. My brand is a direct product of that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Im big on supporting black businesses as much as possible. There’s a few food spots I would take them to. For soul food I would recommended “Slades Bar and Grill”, For Brunch I would recommended “Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen” and for something with some Caribbean flair I would recommend “The neighborhood kitchen”. In regards to places to visit, The Museum of African American History is something on the the top of my list.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my friends and family. It’s really important to have a strong support system. Whether it’s advice, Words of wisdom or just a conversation. Knowing you have someone to call no matter what is a powerful thing.
