We had the good fortune of connecting with Labdhi Shah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Labdhi, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Professionally I would like to have many grants and recognition and hopefully in a decade, an invitation to present my art work in various biennials across the globe. But what would make me truly happy about my career is if I was able to create something which is a truest form of my feeling and I am able to make the viewer feel that energy with my unspoken dialogue through my artwork. That would be my end goal. So even if I fail to achieve the professional goals which look good on paper, I definitely don’t want to fail on the latter.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Today, perhaps more than ever before, the spiritual aspect of our lives is neglected and treated as detached from reality. However, spiritual growth is the sole object of life in Indian philosophy. Through my work, I seek to engage in a conversation about the spiritual aspect of our most intimate relationships, and thus the deepest parts of ourselves. I want to talk about the potential for our relationships to be a “Spiritual Union”— a relationship which nurtures the spiritual growth of both partners.

The theme and articulation for this body of work didn’t come quick and easy but i was persistent in trying to express what i felt in most honest way i could possibly relate to. I have learned during this process to keep trying and experimenting with your own form and techniques. Eventually one does come to a place which feels complete and as accurate as one would like to express

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely this trip would include going to museums such as the Apex Museum, the High Museum of Art and attending art shows such as those at Atlanta Contemporary, and MINT. I love to mix my trips with a bit of everything. I would like to start the day with a sumptuous brunch at Sunflower Cafe and begin exploring the city. I would check out the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, and the Apex Museum, and get lunch at Herban Fix. I am a big fan of sunset and I feel there is a sense of energy during that time that I would like to bask in and see the transition from day to night. Gladly this city has many popular spots to check that out. I would probably head to Piedmont Park for an evening stroll and get a sunset view of the skyline, and head down to Herban Fix for a delicious dinner and dessert. Atlanta is full of exciting people with such diverse backgrounds so if you like to meet new people, you are probably in the right place even if it’s merely while checking out records at Wax ‘n’ Facts in Little Five Points or browsing the clothes collection at The Clothing Warehouse.

My favourite place in any city are the parks, I love them and any trip would be incomplete without a picnic in a park!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and my partner, they both been the biggest cheerleaders and the critics of my work and i wouldn’t be able to what i do without the support i have from them.
