We had the good fortune of connecting with LaDerricka Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaDerricka, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When i was younger (high school days) it was hard for me to find clothes that i deemed stylish and fit me as a teenager, and this carried on into adulthood as well. I wanted to give plus size women the accessibility to high quality and true to size clothing. Now, I thought it was going to be an easy process. I was thinking like “oh, once i get these cute clothes they would buy them up and I was so wrong.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kaotic Kurves is a plus size boutique, ran by a plus size woman and is my baby!

What sets me apart from other plus size boutiques is that it’s ran by an actual plus size woman and we always show our items on a relatable plus size body. Anyone can add plus size clothes to their store, but actually knowing how the cut, sizing, and style of products will look and/or feel on a plus size body matters a lot and that’s a luxury that I have in my business.

Starting and maintaining a business isn’t easy at all (especially when you’re a one woman show) you have to wear many hats until you can afford to outsource certain task. Greatness won’t come easy in business and you have to be okay with that (even though I wanted to quit every week). I overcame my challenges by remembering why I started and having a phenomenal coach helped also.

Currently, I’m most proud of my upcoming relaunch. Being that I now have a surplus of knowledge that I didn’t have for my initial launch, I plan to come back better this time around. I’ve learned that you have to be okay with making decisions and those decisions not coming out how you expected. You have to be okay with FAILING and investing a lot of money that you probably won’t see back quickly.

I want the world to know that Kaotic Kurves’ mission is to make plus size women look and feel great. We strive to uplift and empower women by providing clothes that celebrate their curves and embrace femininity. At Kaotic Kurves, you’ll never have to worry about if the items fit or if the quality is good because we’re committed to providing the best products for our #kaotickuties.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d for sure have to eat at Lousiniana Bistreaux in Decatur for dinner. There is always something to do in Atlanta so i’d see what’s going on in the city that week and we’d plan from there. Live music is a must and we’d hit up the most Instagrammable places for cute pictures. Oh and brunch of course.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t have come as far as I have in my business without my coach Jance (IG: @jancechartae). She has a great accelerator program that is geared towards boutiques owners or anyone that has an e-commerce store. Without her direction I have no idea where I would currently be in my business ( still struggling if i had to guess lol). She goes over and beyond for the ladies (and some men) who are currently enrolled in the accelerator or who has taken it in the pass. I took the course in 2019 and she still answers any questions i have and etc.
