We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Treadaway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
There are a lot of reality tv shows that influence the public opinion on real estate. I admit, those are some of go to comfort shows to watch when I need to unplug, but they don’t accurately represent the industry. There is so much more planning, from P&L sheets to project management to to market research to value delivery and beyond, that goes into entering the real estate industry. It is never just as simple as finding a good deal or deciding to sell your house. The strategy for every deal should be far more granular than most people realize.
What should our readers know about your business?
When I started in real estate, to be completely honest, I felt so isolated because many of the leading industry professionals had already been in the business for decades. I definitely felt discouraged, but I had a moment one day where I realized I was actually very lucky to have a different career trajectory than my peers. I am grateful to have started “late”, and to come from a very thorough design and business acceleration pedigree, which supports my clients in real estate immensely. When I first started in the industry, I took a very clinical approach to navigating business and I am so happy that I very quickly switched gears. I love my work and I am so appreciative of being able to use my past life’s skills when working with my clients and colleagues. Once I accepted that my unique approach to business was a feature, not a bug, I gained the confidence to fully embrace my expertise in my business and services. I feel no guilt about freeing myself from the traditional, and very antiquated, sales mindset that seems to haunt the real estate industry today. This authentic, yet business hardy approach is what distinguishes me to my clients. If they are buying, selling, or investing, I can formulate the best strategy to secure them the product and the result they desire. I think if I hadn’t spent such a substantial time in design, editorial marketing, and sales acceleration prior to joining real estate, I would not have developed the distinct edge that I bring to the closing table.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question because I actually do this for clients, friends, and myself all the time! Atlanta is such a great city to explore. Even if you have lived here forever, there is always something new to find. If my friends were in town, they would not be able to leave until they’ve eaten at Delbar, one of my favorite restaurants for socializing in the city. I have also definitely been known to take people to yoga with me at favorite studio, Dancing Dogs Yoga. Protip: go to the Thursday night class because they have free margaritas in partnership with Guac Y Margys after class. If we need something to do on a Saturday, I would have to take them to Summerhill for Press Shops’s community wine tastings and rotating in store local art, and a How Crispy chicken sandwich-so, so good. Also, as most folks would say, the Beltline is a must for visitors; there is nothing quite like being able to leisurely walk the city while getting exposed to everything great Atlanta has to offer all at once. The Beltline has it all- food, fitness, art, live music and performances, play spaces, parks, and new faces to see with every step. I am a huge fan of getting to know each neighborhood in the city and supporting those local businesses, so any further plans would really pend where they were planning on staying.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am like a walking billboard for my supporters, so I very much so align with this question! I recognize that my success in real estate would not have occurred without the support of the people in my inner circle. My broker, Valerie Levin, as well as our inimitable creative and marketing director, Randall Valverde, have had the largest direct hand in helping me build my brand. They are some of my biggest cheerleaders, and I am so appreciative for all of their guidance and support.
I also have a very strong network of local realtors and businesses that light up my work days and community on a daily basis. There are so many folks that I am inspired by that I cannot even begin to list them all off, but trust me, it’s an army.
