We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammie Mobley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammie, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is actually my tagline, “Your imperfections don’t stop your greatness”. When I was growing up, I was always in trouble. I skipped school and ran away from home twice. I witnessed my father abuse my mother and I married into an abusive relationship. I was a teen mom and watched the murder of my best friend.  Currently, I’m a business owner. My program is contracted in several schools, and I have spoken on several platforms sharing my story and empowering women and teens.  I am the perfect example of someone with imperfections, but I overcame several obstacles.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the founder of R.E.AL Girlz (Responsible, Empowered and Loved) and empowerment program for teen girls providing a safe space  to develop leadership skills, foster healthy relationships and believe in their greatness. In 2019, I became unemployed from being a Youth Program Director and decided to become an entrepreneur.  My empowerment  program is currently in five schools.  On May 15, 2022, we hosted our first major event. R.E.A.L Girlz Tea Time with Miss Black USA, Myja Gary. This summer, we will have our first summer camp. Becoming an entrepreneur at the age of 50 was not easy. I wondered if I was too old to relate to teens or if it was too late to start over.  I am also the radio talk show host of Curative Conversations on 101.3 FM. Each week, I welcome guest on the show that has overcome obstacles and share inspirational stories with our listeners.

The lessons learned is to believe in your greatness. You are never too old. Within three years, I have accomplished so much in my personal and professional life and I feel like I am just getting started.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

First, I would invite them to be a guest on my show, after the show we would go to brunch at Southern Kitchen in Richmond, VA. If it is a nice day, take an hour drive to Lake Anna and relax in the sun.

Places to check out in RVA, BookBinders, Maymont Park, The Reserve at The Highlands, Splatter RVA just to name a few.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My sons Jemell and Kevin, my mother Faye Bobb-Semple and husband Clarence Mobley. They are my biggest cheerleaders.  I also have an amazing support group of women (College Moms)  that I appreciate and love dearly.
