We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In hindsight, starting my own business is something I always wanted to do. I initially tried back in 2016 with starting my own hat line, but it just wasn’t the right time. It was a different concept, I was a different person, and I didn’t believe in it. In the beginning of 2020, I had just finished my academia career and moved back home. 2020 was a transformational year for a lot of us, and in this year I became my true self. I’ve always considered myself a multifaceted creative. So many things I love and appreciate, so I said why not create a company that housed of all my talents, and grow from there. My thought process was to follow my heart and started believing truly that nothing can stand in the way of my dreams but me.

Hello,

My name is Brandon Alexander and I’m the Owner/CEO of Private Owned. Private Owned is a multifaceted company I started back in 2020. It’s a fashion house, music radio, magazine, and entertainment tailored specifically for our community. Private is defined by belonging to or for the use of one particular person or group of people only. 2020 was a such a strange, anxious, angry time for me. I can remember back when I started, the feeling of being marginalized greatly by the majority of our country started to way very heavily on me. Aside from Covid-19 threatening the lives of the human race, our community has experienced much more. The police killings, the protest, the election and division of our country, and racism all directly affected every single one of us. During this time of deciding what’s next for me, I was more motivated than ever to express myself about how I truly feel about the world we live in and that’s when the company was born.

Private Owned is much more than another clothing brand, it’s a lifestyle. It’s an experience. It’s a fully immersive world for our community to feel valued, comfortable to be themselves. While the magazine & entertainment side is still very much in the works, for the past year I host/DJ a radio show, Private Owned Radio, with over 60 shows that airs weekly on Soundcloud with the full playlist available on Apple Music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a special shoutout to my family, friends, my girlfriend, & the community behind me that has never left my side. The community runs deep. I have people I haven’t spoken to in years that are still very supportive of the brand and me, it’s something that I cherish and will never forget. To my friends and family, thanks for staying down with me. Private Owned is an extension of me, all my interest and talent housed under one roof. Anyone that has ever supported whether buying, sharing, liking, commented, or whatever. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you, we are just getting started!
