We had the good fortune of connecting with Deli Rowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deli, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’m a recording artist, songwriter, and music producer. I recently added the last title about 4 years ago. I started off as an artist like many creatives looking to branch out into the music business; I knew that I loved to sing and write my own music. I’d say that was where I thought my business would be: performing live, recording albums, touring, etc.

But my business model has not adjusted to that of a content creator, music producer for TV shows, and mentor. I still gig live pretty regularly but the bulk of my business and brand has been built on being a woman music producer who creates music for TV shows. I believe that leveraging my own music by creating it to release and license for sync has allowed my business to standout.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Music has been in my life since I can remember…I honestly couldn’t tell you when I first fell in love with it because it’s always been here. I grew up in church like alot of musicians so my ear was trained to hear harmonies and melodies without even knowing what they were. I believe that foundation has helped me transition from being just a vocalist, to a producer/writer.

From there to now, it’s definitely been a JOURNEY. Absolutely has NOT been easy lol. Everything from my music being stolen, to law suits, to men preying on me as a woman in the field, to hearing my first some on TV. I don’t regret any of it because it’s made me who I am.

Biggest lessons have to be getting a team; being independent is amazing but it’s WORK. I realize that alot of my up and down in this game has been because I’ve tried to carry this load on my own: make the music, write the music, film the videos, shoot the photos, market it, do the shows, etc. It’s alot! And it takes MONEY; a large part of my budget and time goes to building out marketing tatics and figuring out how to get people to know who I am and what I have to offer the world.

I want to be known as an authentic person who is driven and who has opened the door for many other women producers/engineers/writers to come after. It’s our time and I’m glad to be here for it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you came to my hometown in Richmond, VA; we’re going to Croaker Spot, Bingo, Mona’s, Station 2, Jasper, Lulus, and Hardywood Brewrey to grub.

Then we’ll either stay at Bingo for some games, or head over to one of the rooftops like the Hof to hangout.

We might even go to Addis and bar hop in Shockhoe Bottom.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course God first – He’s the giver of all gifts

Then my family: my parents have supported me from day one; they always get on me when I’m applying for 9-5 jobs…they’re like NO! Do your music! LOL so I couldn’t do this without a supportive family.

I’ve had a ton of mentors; too many to name but they know who they are to me

My partner, who encourages, pushes, and shoots a lot of my content for me.

Also to my girl Regan Wolfrey-Norris who referred me to Shoutout ATL. (thanks girl!)

And all my supporters, I really appreciate you all rocking with me.
