We had the good fortune of connecting with Fai A. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fai, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
“The irony is that we attempt to disown our difficult stories to appear more whole or more acceptable, but our wholeness—even our wholeheartedness—actually depends on the integration of all of our experiences, including the falls.” Bernie Brown

I think that the greatest risk an individual can take is being Vulnerable, is being honest about your story. Speaking your unfiltered truth, and by doing this I learned that the truth becomes your most powerful weapon. Its not only your shield and armor, its also your bow and arrow.

It takes guts, and it takes a bit of courage to know that by speaking your truth you become open to very real criticism. But choosing to live in the public eye, you have to make a decision as to what version of yourself you wish to share. Often we find that people share a persona of themselves, but not their true selves on social media platforms.

I decided I was going to be raw and honest.
About my Chronic Illness, about challenges with raising my son, I decided the truth was going to be my strength and not my weakness.

It was the biggest risk I took, and it comes with a degree of challenges.

But its the best risk I took.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe the journey for everyone to get to where they want to be is difficult, and like so many others, I faced a few challenges. One of the most difficult ones was the age old dilemma of trying to balance being a new mom and creating a career from scratch. I had a really good circle around me and a good village can help you overcome alot of bumps in the road.

I would suggest to others trying to balance the two parts of their lives to build a good support network, and don’t just take give. Call you friends and ask how you can help them. Dont ask if there is something you can do to support them. Call and ask for a task because you insist on it. We all need help sometimes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well currently I live in Dubai, so coffee in the Burj Khalifa of course. Drinks at Timeout market are a must , its the closest thing we have to a Singaporean market and its energy is electric.

Old Dubai serves a great example of what Dubai was before the glitz and glam, and while there is so much that sparkles in Dubai, Old Dubai is a beautiful and simple escape.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think what deserves a lot of credit is a book I read by Charles Duhigg, called The Power of Habit. The most useful tool I Learned from this book is that your entire life can be transformed to what you want it to be, and all it takes is the effort of changing one small habit at a time. I wont give too much of it away, but it is entirely worth picking up and discovering how even certain areas of the brain that can be damaged in an accident, can be overcome with the power of Habit. From Smoking to effective sales techniques, this book has it all and you will walk away feeling high spirited.
