Meet Symoné B. Beez” | Investor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Symoné B. “Beez” and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Symoné, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think about risks and decision making I always think about them in terms of Expected Value (EV). EV is a poker term that can either have a positive or negative outcome. In my life, I have taken what many people consider major risks. I decided to leave the United States and move to Japan at the age of 23 to further my career as an Overseas Government Contractor. This allowed me to double my income and live tax free which boosted the amount of money that I could invest every month.
Making this one decision allowed me to continue to advance my career and invest aggressively which lead to me retiring from corporate at age 29.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey was very different than others, I never planned on building a brand or a community. I began giving out free game on twitter to help people learn about financial literacy and getting into tech. I always had a genuine passion for helping others improve financially and sharing my financial journey. With me working as a government contractor I chose to remain anonymous on Twitter until I released my first book Financial Starter Kit teaching everything that I learned about personal finance during my financial journey. The book covers everything that I felt like the black community isn’t taught growing up.
Upon launching my book I sold over 5,000 copies in the first 6 months, which has now sold over 10,000 books as a best seller on Amazon. This support came from the community that I grew over 7 years of being on Twitter. Since launching my book I have also founded a community called Success Life Society (SLS) that helps minorities increase their income through career and investing.
My brand was created through just being myself and always being willing to help others. When you focus on building a community first you are able to impact the lives of many people who genuinely support you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city are Eight Sushi, they have amazing sushi, dope presentation, and a lot of fun drinks on the menu. If you are looking to visit food halls I really enjoy Ponce City Market, even though it is pricey there is a cusine that everyone enjoys. To finish off the trip with drinks I’d tell my friend to finish off with 12 at the top of Ponce City Market. It is a black owned speak easy that makes every drink custom to order, with a great r&b vibe, and good finger foods. Overall just a great time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my friend Ayesha Selden. She is a millionaire from Philidelphia, PA. She is a real estate investor, franchise owner, art collector, and author of From Mud to Millions. She was the first black woman that I saw showing what years of investing, saving, and working hard in your career looked like in your 40s. The definition of black excellence and she deserves all of her flowers.
