Meet Victoria Rodgers | Professional Organizer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a kid I never dreamed about working for a large corporation or having the “dream job.” I always focused on more creative outlets and finding things I simply enjoyed doing. When it came time to declare a major in college I had no real idea what I wanted to do. I chose public relations because I always loved connecting with people. After I graduated I still was unsure what career would bring me joy and fulfillment. After a few different positions I finally realized what was missing. I was working extremely hard to bring other people’s dreams to fruition and not focusing on the things I enjoyed. I knew there was so much more I could be doing while also creating a fulfilling career for myself in the process. I decided to go all in with establishing my own professional organizing business. I have been organizing for friends and family for years and I knew there was a real need for that service in today’s world. Now I get to do something I love every single day, while also helping my clients streamline their homes and lives!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My business, Victorganized, focuses on professional home organizing. One of the biggest reasons I started my business was to bring the benefits of organizing to as many people as possible. Generally the professional home organizing industry has focused on the luxury market. While many people do view it as a luxury service, I know the functionality, beauty and calm that organizing can bring to any space. I believe that everyone should have the chance to experience their home as a sanctuary from the craziness of the world!
I have been organizing since I was a kid. I used to organize my friends’ rooms on playdates in kindergarten. It is something I’m extremely passionate about. With people spending more time than ever before in their homes, an organized home can change your life. I focus on creating easily maintainable systems that work with my client’s lifestyle. Organizing is not just one-size fits all with pretty baskets. It is about editing your belongings down to what you really need and use, creating clear categories and establishing systems that can save both your time and sanity! I know so many of my clients have wasted so many hours searching for things and wasting money constantly rebuying because they can’t find what they need.
Prior to starting Victorganized I worked for another home organizing company. That position did allow me to learn about the industry and really grow my organizational skills. I think that is one of the most important things you can do for any career. You need to be willing to take an entry level job and learn the foundation of the industry. It definitely was a little scary to quit my job and go full time with my own business but I started Victorganized to help people and that pursuit is worth pushing through the fear.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to have a group of people around you that you can count on no matter what. Whether that is a friend, partner or parent, you need to have an open ear to listen to you vent. There are so many ups and downs with starting your own business that you definitely need someone to talk to. I also think it is really important to recognize your own strengths and weaknesses. I personally knew I had no business figuring out certain financial aspects of my business. I have an accountant that can guide me with all financial matters so I can focus on organizing. Delegating is a big part of becoming an entrepreneur and it is crucial to realize that.
I would love the world to know that Victorganized is meant to help people. When I come into a space to organize it know that there is ZERO judgement. I think people worry I will come in judge you and then make you get rid of everything you own. Nothing could be further from the truth! I am there to help. Life can get overwhelming and sometimes things build up. I will always focus on organizing with kindness, honesty and the desire to help you get the space of your dreams!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely focus on the food for any of my friends visiting Atlanta. We all love to eat and Atlanta does not disappoint in the food department. I would make sure we hit all of my favorite spots for dinner including Barcelona, Sotto Sotto, The Optimist and Truva, which has the best Turkish food.
For daytime plans strolling along the Beltline and going to Ladybird or maybe Del Bar for cocktails is always fun. I love people watching and Ladybird is my favorite spot to do that. I would also love to show them around East Atlanta Village. There’s so many cool vintage shops over there plus Argosy has the most delicious vegan pizza. Virginia Highlands is also one of my favorite neighborhoods. Even just walking around there and looking at the historic houses is so much fun to do. A class at Highland Yoga is also a must when visiting. Yoga is one of my favorite things to do to decompress and Highland is the best studio in the city.
I don’t think any trip to Atlanta would be complete without a night ending at Dark Horse. There’s something about singing karaoke in that basement that just cements a night out as a success. My friends and I have never been disappointed in what Dark Horse has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and close friends. They truly are the most supportive, wonderful group of people. Initially, I was unsure if I had what it takes to start my own business and really take that leap of faith. I remember telling one of my best friends from childhood that I was thinking about starting my own organizing business and she said there is no job out there that is more perfect for you. They’ve all been willing to let me into their homes and start organizing to grow my portfolio. My friends are extremely supportive and have helped me in so many ways. From logo design, to website and content creation they’re so talented and have truly cheered me on every step of the way. My parents are also the most encouraging duo I know. They have always been behind me 100% and told me I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. My mom has also started her own business and seeing her bravery and strength in her business gave me the confidence to start my own. I knew she would always be the shoulder to lean on during the hard times and celebrate with me during the good times!
