We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole + Ben Clouser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole + Ben, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We both have always loved photography, finding joy in using our creativity for ourselves and others. When we got married, we knew it would be a great opportunity to work together, create our own schedule and get to do what we’re passionate about. Lastly, we love traveling, so doing this allows us to combine travel with photographing and filming some of the best moments in people’s lives. Being our own bosses was an added benefit as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We have both worked in a variety of fields before doing the photography and videography. We’re really grateful for those experiences because we learned skills that helped us manage our own business. It gave us a better understanding of working with many different people, busy environments and we learned how to be adaptable.

As a husband and wife team, we have that built in partner, one who can read our mind and anticipate needs. That helps us as we go into a wedding or any photoshoot. We have a rhythm and it makes the process with our clients go smoothly.

We got here at first, honestly, by natural growth. Our work spoke for itself, clients recommended us to friends, they gave our name to family….the interest spread and our business grew. As we got busier and busier, we saw the oppurtunity to make this our career. The hard part has been making sure we learn our value and price accordingly. Along with grasping the behind the scenes of invoices, emails, contracts etc. Through trial and error, recommendations from others and mentorships we have come a long way.

The time with our clients is not another day on the job, we really enjoy the bond we develop with those we work with. We’ve gotten to work with the same families many times over and have been there for the milestones. Our brand is quite simple, capturing lil moments. Those moments though, are huge in the minds and hearts of our clients. We definitely recognize that and do our very best to find, create and encourage those moments throughout their special day so they can have those memories for a lifetime!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had the opportunity over the years of becoming friends with so many really talented, creative people. They all balance their passions while volunteering a lot of their time to help others. Seeing their work has continually pushed me to keep learning and expanding my skills. – Nicole Clouser

My experience with photography in my younger years was purely a hobby, I never had an interest in pursuing a career in it. My friends and family always encouraged and supported my creativity though, so the fact that it was always a part of my life has definitely played a large role in where I find myself now. My shoutout is to everyone that supported me and to anyone that is struggling not to lose their own creativity despite their current circumstances! – Ben Clouser
