We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Biggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was a top sales producer for numerous companies throughout my career. I learned so much about relationship building and understanding what clients need in each sales role.
There was always friction with the quality of leads given to salespeople by marketing, and I found myself working on lead gen campaigns as much as I was focused on closing business. Additionally, I have been fascinated with computers and business since high school. My husband is a software engineer,
I have observed that working for someone and being under their thumb can be pretty frustrating, even more so when you’re a creative person. I realized that I didn’t love Corporate America. And that I needed to carve my path, or I would regret it later in life.
At that point, we (my husband and I) began exploring franchise opportunities because we didn’t want to build a business from the ground up. We found WSI, a digital marketing franchise, and knew that this was the perfect fit for our skillset and would allow us to make an imprint on our community and leave a legacy for our family.
What should our readers know about your business?
We’re most excited about the things we learn from our clients. We work with the most intelligent, passionate, and talented business owners.
The digital marketing landscape changes every day, and we are thrilled to leverage new insights to grow our clients’ businesses. We’re also deeply proud of our culture. I was recently awarded a place in the Alignable’s Local Business Person of Sandy Springs and featured in Franchise Journal’s “Lighting the Torch for Women” addition.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I have had a variety of backdrops in life that have helped prepare me to be successful as an entrepreneur. My mother instilled in me a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, and although I may not have agreed with her at the time, I can see how much she taught me that has benefited my business.
Starting from grade school, I was fortunate enough to have two phenomenal aunts (Betty and Minnie) who took my sister and me to church every Sunday; we led the congregation in responsive readings each week. By no means was this an easy task for me – but through perseverance, I gained the necessary skills, which, in turn, equipped me with the confidence required to thrive in any future meetings or professional engagements that might require public speaking or presentation. As they say, practice makes perfect!
Along the way, I have been blessed with numerous mentors who taught me how to navigate business successfully. In addition, I had some great business professors at Emory Goizueta School of Business, where I obtained my MBA.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Life teaches us so many valuable lessons. One of my favorite sayings is, “If perfection is the goal—we all fail.” This quote resonated with me because it reminds me that even if we fail, as long as we keep trying, that’s our benefit. We must never pretend we are perfect. We must instead applaud our imperfections and focus on the progress we continue to make.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Discovering your needs and meeting them is the starting point for pursuing your dreams. At my core, I am someone who appreciates hard work and success and takes a career-focused approach. I am passionate about helping businesses succeed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is such a diverse city so I would want them to experience all that it has to offer.
Sunday – Brunch at Murphy’s and then a walk on the Beltline
Monday – A visit to the High Museum or Imagine Picasso
Tuesday- Hike Amicalola Falls State Park
Wednesday- GA Aquarium
Thursday- Civil Rights Musuem
Friday – Shops around Lenox and dinner at Canoe
Saturday – Shopping GA 400 Outlets and chill at Lake Lanier
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of our first clients was J.D. Longino, CPA of Accolade Accounting. JD took a chance on us in the early stages and remains a loyal client. We have worked with JD to grow his brand presence and his firm. The entire team at Accolade Accounting has been phenomenal!
