We had the good fortune of connecting with ALEXANDRA QUINTERO and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ALEXANDRA, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Originally, it was to make life easier for mothers, to help them personalize children’s products, and over time, the vision was to expand the business, reaching any part of the world regardless of borders… Over the last 10 years, Tu Motivo has grown to service 10 countries and continues to grow. We advertise Instagram, Facebook, Google, and word of mouth.
Social impact: how does your business help the community or the world?
I help from my teaching, from my career, I always try as much as possible to show my path, my mistakes and my successes, to teach especially those who are starting, an easier path. Encourage that if you can, that no matter how many times you fall you can get up stronger. They are things that nothing else works for one as an entrepreneur, it also works for one as a human being, in any area of our lives.

Risk taking: how do you think about risk, what role has taking risks played in your life/career?

Life is full of risks, pros and cons. The only way to know if something works is to take risks. Otherwise you will always stay in the same place, you will not advance. Sometimes we can make mistakes, there the important thing is to learn from those mistakes and grow.
I have taken many risks, which have made me start from scratch on several occasions. For example, leaving my country when business was at its best, but for reasons of politics and insecurity, the decision to leave had to be made.

If you are a parent, what do you think is the most important thing you’ve done as a parent in terms of the impact on your children?

Yes, I am a mother of two beautiful girls. Teaching them that nothing is impossible, that we have no limits, that maybe things are not as we want or sometimes things are a little slower. But if we have conviction in what we want we should not stop. We must fight and work for our dreams. We must be where we are happy

What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?

Do not lose heart in the face of obstacles. Being in constant learning. Looking for different alternatives. Having customers who are not only buyers, but friends and or partners. Most of my clients are from years, I have been to their most important events, even if we are no longer in the same country.

How to know whether to keep going or to give up?

Never give up. I never think of giving up even if I’m not in the best of spirits. I have had moments when I think that nothing has been worth it that it is uphill… but then I think that everything passes, everything is temporary, and everything is part of a process. I have made decisions that for some may not have been the best, but my desire to want to achieve where I want to go is greater,

When you look back and realize what you have advanced, what you have grown, it is your impulse to continue.

Work life balance: how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?
Well, Tu Motivo is still in the growth stage, and I am spending all my extra time, after taking care of the kids, on growing the business and servicing new customers. Soon, we´ll bring on some additional people and I well be able to scale back on my time and achieve more balance.

What makes you happy? Why?

At work, the faces of people. Satisfaction and gratitude with each final work. It tells you that you are doing well. It is a great reward. Personally, being in peace, harmony, if I am that way everything else flows without complications. I see myself in the person I am today. One must be happy to be able to give happiness to others.

Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?
I really studied advertising and marketing because it was what caught my attention as a second option, more for marketing than for advertising. I wanted to study criminology or forensic psychology LOL. But that in Venezuela does not work as it should, so for me it was not a viable option. So I didn’t love the design so much. But when I had my first daughter, at 6 months old, I had to put her day care, as I had to go to work at the telephone company. At that moment I realized that everything had to be personalized, and people were writing their kid´s name with a Sharpie, on backpacks, lunch boxes and shoes. So at that moment everything flowed. I always say that every good idea is born from necessity, and in this case it was not the exception.

How do you define success?

Global domination. LOL. I would like to achieve better work life balance, while still managing and growing the company.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
