Meet Dominique Davis | Yoga Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, how do you think about risk?
I believe in taking risks when educated and understanding what is at stake. It’s important to know when to be content and when to be brave for the sake of expanding.
I tend to steer clear of risks in my personal life. I seek risks and evaluate them in my career.
It’s so easy to become complacent and comfortable. If some of my decisions don’t scare me, I know that I am playing it safe. Playing it safe is the best way to make sure nothing changes in life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I operate a wellness brand called Brown and Bendy. Initially, when I created my platform I was focused on teaching yoga and making yoga more accessible to black women. As my brand evolved, I went through my own evolution and mindfulness became the center of my brand.
Brown and Bendy is a platform that offers information about asana (the physical yoga postures) as well as information about the mind, how it works, and how one can thrive when practicing a little mental and spiritual flexibility.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay, a week in Charlotte?
Sunday: Sit, catch up and eat some Cinnaholic (@cinnaholic). They make vegan cinnamon rolls and vegan cookie dough.
Tuesday: Go for a run with Mad Miles Run Club (@madmilesrunclub). Mad Miles was started by two black guys, and it’s 50+ black people deep, running around Charlotte. It’s the best experience.
Thursday: Go for a walk at Mountain Island Lake Park. It’s low-key and absolutely gorgeous.
Friday: Hot Vinyasa Beats at Khali Yoga (@khaliyoga)
Saturday: Dinner at Fahrenheit (@Fahrenheitclt). Angelique is the best sous chef in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful for my yoga mentor: Sandy Raper 500 RYT.
She is wise and understanding. Her encouragement is so valuable because of her education and experience. Every time she gives me advice she inspires a perspective shift, within me. She’s the best.
