We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Our profession is so much harder than most people assume. From time to time, people have said to me “Your job must be so fun, you get to shop for cool things with other people’s money.” While there are most definitely fun parts to this profession, selecting furniture, fabrics and materials represent the smallest portion of what we do on a daily basis. It’s project management at its best combined with a fast-paced environment. There are so many critical details to a well designed spaced and many moving parts with an ever-changing list of priorities. In addition to being expert problem solvers, we also have to be experts in so many different areas – furniture construction, fabric contents, and different uses, renovation particulars, floor planning, billing and invoicing, and also be constantly improving our technical know-how with new and better software and programs. That’s all in addition to staying on top of design trends and constantly building relationships with new vendors and trades. Every time we start a new project, we feel the pressure (mostly self-inflicted) to level up and try to create something new and different which is exciting and can also be overwhelming at times too.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a full-service interior design firm located in Marietta, GA. We primarily serve clients in the Metro Atlanta area although we do work with clients out-of-state as well. We like to consider ourselves as the unpretentious design firm, we don’t take ourselves too seriously and absolutely love working with clients who value our style and approach to design. We have a warmmodern aesthetic and believe less is more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love the vibe of Ponce City Market, so many places there to grab a bite to eat and have fun cocktails with friends on the rooftop patio! During the day – it’s fun to rent scooters to ride on the beltline and people watch. We are always down for good margaritas & tacos too – a fav spot is Bar Taco. And lastly, closer to home for us is The Battery where you can walk around, people watch and grab something good to eat. It’s usually a toss-up between Antico and Superica. For a nice relaxing, slower-paced activity, we enjoy strolling through the Botanical Gardens and then having a picnic at Piedmont Park. So many fun things in the ATL!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hands down, my husband, Matt. He is the one that encouraged me to “go for it” to start the business initially, has been a constant source of encouragement along the way.
