We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendrick Wooten and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendrick, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am very active in the community of Mobile, Alabama. I wanted to create a platform to let our black voices be heard and promote black excellence. I wanted to give other black entrepreneurs and community activists the free space to share their stories so others can hear and be a part of the change we want to see as well as promote black greatness.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I established The WooPrint LLC, which the first entity under that is Wooisms Podcast. What sets Wooisms Podcast apart from any other podcast is that we have genuine conversation. It started out as three friends joining together to speak on issues within our community. We evolved to promoting black excellence and black entrepreneurship within the Mobile, Alabama community. As the episodes progressed, we extended the platform to other black voices around the United States. Creating a podcast is not as easy as many may seem or think it would be. We started out recording episodes on an iPhone and then progressed to purchasing equipment needed to continue recording. Although all three of us have been friends for years, understanding each other while recording was something we had to get use to in order to make sure the conversations felt genuine and not scripted. As we enter our third year of Wooisms Podcast, one thing that I have learned is to trust the process and trust my brothers that help make up Wooisms Podcast. We literally started not knowing how to manage a podcast to being a premier podcast. Each one of us have specific roles when it comes to the podcast, and we do not cross lanes and not perform someone else’s role within the business. Wooisms Podcast is a podcast the was founded on the basis of friends wanting to create a safe space to promote black excellence and to give other black people the platform to let their black voices be heard.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since it is Mardi Gras Season, I would invite my friend to Rho Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated Frat house, which is on the main parade route. Fat Tuesday weekend is one of the biggest events in the city so that would be a 4-day event. I would also take them to a few Mardi Gras balls depending on who is performing and what crowd will be out. Since Mobile is on the Gulf, I must take my friend to a few good seafood restaurants as well as some good soul food places here in the city. I far as other black owned businesses in the city, I would take them to The Hit House for a good drink and nice cigar or to Flava’s for live entertainment, hookah, and drinks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity.  I want to thank my wife, Quintavia for supporting me as I was able to pursue and bring a vision to fruition as well as Tivoli and Melissa for allowing their husbands the time away from home and the family to help Wooisms achieve the notoriety that has been achieved thus far. I want to shoutout Nspire U for allowing Wooisms Podcast to be the first and official podcast on the Nspire U on Air Brand. I also want to thank my brothers Big Hes and J_Eezey for joining me on this journey because without them Wooisms would not be the podcast we are today. Lastly, I want to shoutout the Omega Lamplighters Mobile Chapter as part of our Fatherhood Initiative under the Rho Alpha Chapter, for allowing me to be the coordinator and mentor to our young black men and be the change I want to see in the community.
