We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Russell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started both of my companies, Chic Essentials Boutique® and Curated Styles By Adrienne® with women in mind. I wanted to serve women and help them see the beauty in themselves the same way that I see them. I wanted to help women show up AUTHENTICALLY in this world for their brands and most importantly THEMSELVES. I wanted women to feel empowered and confident every time they wore a Chic Essentials piece. I wanted to help women CULTIVATE a Personal Brand Style that builds respect, trust, and revenue for their brands. My passion and purpose is to help women become the best versions of themselves by using fashion and style as a conduit to achieving an authentic personal brand image.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am also known as The Brand Style Cultivator® and I am the CEO of Curated Styles By Adrienne®, an Image Consultant Agency. I am a Brand Stylist that helps women cultivate a personal brand style that build respect, trust, and revenue in their businesses. Curated Styles by Adrienne® specializes in helping women find style clarity, get dressed without stress, and ensuring that women show up authentically in style that matches their brand voice. I am also the CEO of Chic Essentials Boutique® (CEB), an online women’s fashion boutique that focuses on delivering chic, timeless, and inclusive fashion. Chic Essentials Boutique is known for empowering women with confidence through fashion. Our motto is ” Celebrating inclusivity! All women, All shapes, All sizes”. What sets CEB apart from other online boutiques is our relentless celebration of body inclusivity, sourcing high-quality pieces, fast shipping and exceptional customer service.
I am most proud of helping over 50 women cultivate personal brand style as well as having my work featured on national tv- Access Hollywood, and servicing over a thousand customers in Chic Essentials Boutique.
My love for working with women and helping them find confidence through fashion is rooted in my love for serving others. I am a healthcare professional of almost 20 years that has practiced in the underserved community for a decade. I am naturally an educator and love to make an impact in people’s lives. I have always been in love with fashion and have been known for my impeccable taste and fashion sense from a young age.
One day during a typical trip to the shopping mall, I decided to stop in a new boutique to purchase a dress for an upcoming event. I will never forget how excited I was to shop in this exclusive boutique knowing I would have a one of a kind dress. Unfortunately, my experience went south from that point. The sales associate explained that they “did not have anything there that would fit me.” Being a curvy woman, I felt absolutely humiliated by the sales associate’s treatment in how she made me feel for having the body I was born with. It almost felt like a scene out of Pretty Woman when the sales associates sent Julia Roberts on her way. From that point on, I knew that I never wanted a woman to feel the feeling I felt that day. I was determined to create a space and place for women of different shapes and sizes to shop, feel beautiful, confident, and powerful through fashion.
Chic Essentials Boutique was born in April 2019 from a place of sadness and humiliation in an effort to create the polar opposite experience for women of different shapes and sizes. In operating the boutique and hosting small events, I identified that there was a greater and deeper need for women to truly find their authentic personal brand style. Many of my customers were Female entrepreneurs building businesses but had lost their personal sense of style. They were looking for the tools and strategies needed to show up for their brands in a way that would remain authentic to their style and connect with their audience. Curated Styles by Adrienne launched in 2020 with a focus on helping those female entrepreneurs build a personal brand style that builds respect, trust, and revenue.
One of the biggest lessons that I have learned and that I would also share with others is to remember that life is truly a marathon, not a sprint. It is so important to take time out and appreciate the lessons learned along the way. When you take your time and enjoy the journey, you become more focused on the process and not the finish line. The beauty is in the journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely LOVE Atlanta and would definitely live it up with friends that are visiting. Some of my most favorite things to do anywhere are eat great food, listen to great music, and catch a vibe. Some places we would visit are:The Martin Luther King Jr Center, The Trap Music Museum, and The Madam Museum
Some places we would check out for good eats and drinks are: Atlanta Breakfast Club (brunch), Nikolai’s Roof, Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours
Some places we would hang out are: Red Phone Booth, Sky Lounge, and TEN ATL
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe that while building a business it is important to invest in personal and business development. A business mentor is key in helping guide you, challenge and expand your thinking to grow your business. My business style coach, Nikki Venus, CEO and founder of Style Coach Academy® has been an impactful force inside of my business. Nikki helped me build out my styling business for Curated Styles By Adrienne® when I had no business. I have learned and continue to learn so much about building a successful, profitable, styling business inside of her program, Style Coach Academy®.
