Meet DaVondra Turner | Entrepreneur | Digital Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with DaVondra Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DaVondra, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Building a business and being an entrepreneur has taught me patience and preparation.
Things may not go as planned, it might be days of making $0, or you may find running a business is mentally overwhelming at times. I’ve learned one of biggest factors in overcoming obstacles is having a lot of patience.
Preparing to draw in customers and actually make sales, takes planning. Social media has glamorized being entrepreneur, but most of the time you don’t hear about the difficulties that comes with it.
There’s so many different aspects of business: finances, marketing, logistics, fulfillment, inventory, customer support etc.
Poor preparation can make or break your success as an entrepreneur.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is an accessory shop. I sell phone accessories, jewelry, hats, sunglasses, and even journals! I’m also an independent travel agent, I can help book travel to anywhere in the world, but I mainly focus on the Caribbean Islands. I’m also a digital creator on social media.
When I explain to others what I do for work, a lot of times they ask how am I able to manage it all. I also have 2 children. The thought of going back to nothing makes me get up everyday & work. The thought of my children not having necessities makes me put everything into perspective.
When I was thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, I only wanted to do things that I was passionate about. I have many other talents like cooking, hair styling, and decorating, but I’d never want to make them into a business because I know my heart wouldn’t be in it.
I graduated from GSU in 2017 with my Associate degree for Business Administration. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I just didn’t know how I would do it with no experience, mentor, or knowledge about anything besides the administration part of it.
I took it upon my self to research all sides of business, and I took what I learned and turned it into what I’ve created thus far.
I’m proud to say I’ve been working at this goal for the last 8 years, and things are finally coming into fruition.
Things has been challenging for me. I’ve had many struggles to stand where I am today. I’ve lost my father, experienced homelessness, and struggled with everyday life situations. My spirituality has saved me over and over. When times would get bad & I had no where to turn; I’d call on God. I remember so many nights going outside looking to sky asking God for a way. Every time, I’d come up with a plan for the next day. That’s when I realized how much I could control my destiny.
I started to only surround myself with things that would align me with my purpose. So when it comes to challenges with my business, I take responsibility for the good and bad aspects. When my businesses aren’t performing as expected, I go back & look at where improvements are needed. The only way I’ve come this far is accepting criticism and being willing to put in the work.
I’ve learned that nothing good comes easy or fast. You have to build on a solid foundation, and be willing to let things develop naturally.
My brand is connected to who I am. We are all made of stardust. Once I learned this it made me look at world different. I gained a greater connection with the universe. My personal Instagram name is how I came up with the name for Cosmic Star & Co. I wanted most things to be a reflection of me so that it’d come off as authentic as possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have a great bond with someone we can go wherever! I’d definitely take my bestie all over the city. I’m talking museums, classic Atlanta restaurants like Busy Bee, K & K, Mary Macs, and so much more. The strip club is definitely a must! You can’t have guest in Atlanta without showing them the shopping districts, visiting iconic areas like Edgewood, Little 5 points, Peter street, etc. We’d pull up to Sevananda to get our health on. Omg, it’s so much to do the possibilities would be endless. I have my favorite crystal shops, spas, and hookah lounges that couldn’t be missed! All in all the whole week would be lit!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My late father has inspired so many things that I’ve done & overcame in my life. As a kid, he seen some of my best attributes and qualities as an entrepreneur. I remember he had a small boutique that sold clothes and accessories. He made me the cashier because he said I was good with money, and that I had essential characteristics of a business woman. I believe I was only 11 or 12 years old.
