We had the good fortune of connecting with Ishmael Holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ishmael, how do you think about risk?
RedCupTv began as a risk. Me and fellow hip-hop artists King Prophet, Jay-Out and Faded Mulah took a risk on walking away from a known label to independently support our own careers. We would buy the door to clubs to book our own shows which we dubbed as RedCup Parties in the Fayetteville North Carolina area. These parties was such a success, it became a lifestyle that we would put on camera to call it RedCupTv. It was a lot of behind the scenes fun from our crazy parties, shows and events that indirectly advertised the experience our audience can expect. With all the fun and money came calculated risk. Of course we made mistakes along the way and that taught us not to take unnecessary risks, but nothing was done without “doing the numbers” first. If we couldn’t guarantee a return on our initial investment, then we wouldn’t do it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I think of RedCupTv, I think of the sense of freedom it gave me and my team. An environment that encouraged me and my to continuously create, dream, plan and execute. For me, RedCupTv made me realize I can do anything I put my mind to. There were challenges with everything we’ve accomplished so far, but with our combined experience and connections, it was as easy as doing it. Even though I have an amazing team, I still have to lead by example. I can’t sit around and wait for something to fall into my hands, I HAVE to go get it.if there’s anything I want my brand to be remembered by is that you can be or have anything you set your mind to.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If this was a question prior to COVID my answer would be way longer lol. I enjoy being by the ocean so we’d definitely end up at Myrtle Beach. (I go throughout the year) The RedCupTv crew are all pretty impulsive so the itinerary wouldn’t be set in stone unless we woke up early enough for brunch at Tupelo Honey. Their chicken and waffles are amazing (still can’t figure out how they are able to get Mac n cheese inside a waffle but it’s really good) Hitting the Boardwalk is a must and definitely having a team meeting by the ocean.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t have such a hustler’s ambition if it wasn’t for my mother Jennifer Haygood. I’ve watched my mom make magic happen when we had nothing to begin with. She’s taught me so much about standing on your own two that I am known among my peers to “make things happen”. I have to give a huge shoutout to my brothers “King Prophet” (Brandon) and “Rell” (Tyrelle) for their support and giving me the push I neded. Definitely a huge shoutout to my brothers in music “Jay-Out” (Joshua) and “Faded Mulah” (James) for keeping my love for music burning. And of course a big thanks to Lissa Turner for being an all around motivator and supporter of RedCupTv since the very beginning.
There are some books that sharpened my entrepreneurial talents such as “The Secret”, “As a Man Thinketh”, “The Law of Attraction”, The Science of Getting Rich”, and, “The Richest Man in Babylon”.
