We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Farmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was getting married at the end of 2014 and spent most of the year Pinteresting my heart out. On evenings and weekends I tackled creative project after project, curating all the things I saw and loved to make my day perfect and one-of-a-kind. I’ve always been a DIY kind of gal and realized how much joy this brought me and how fulfilling it was to see it all come together. At this time, it became apparent to me that I desperately needed another creative outlet that allowed me the gratification I felt was lacking in my full time job. I received so many compliments from family and guests on the look and feel of my wedding, it gave me the confidence to branch out and help bring other couples’ ideas to life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Aside from the creative work I do for weddings and events, I’ve had a professional career as a Creative Director, working in advertising agencies for 20 years. I am very comfortable working in a fast paced environment, juggling multiple projects and creative problem solving to meet each clients’ individual needs and business objectives. It really helped me pave the way for how I work with my brides, giving me an advantage in a sense that I have a keen ability to listen and translate even the smallest notion of an idea into something beautiful, tangible and completely unique to the couple’s vision. I love a good challenge! One lesson I’ve learned when starting out at anything is to always say yes. Saying yes gives you opportunity to not only expand your skill set or offerings, it also allows you to find where your strengths and weaknesses might be and what you are most passionate about.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A perfect day to me involves good company, good food and hunting for vintage treasures. I’d start off with brunch at Homegrown or Highland Bakery. Then you’ve got to check out Highland Row Antiques for all your MCM needs. Follow that up with a walk on the Beltline and stop into Ponce City Market for lunch and a bit more window shopping. While in the area, you must visit a local landmark, The Hotel Clermont, and drool over their recent renovations which include a fantastic rooftop bar with great views.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
More than anything, I appreciate all the couples who have taken a chance on me and trusted me with such an important day in their lives. I also couldn’t work without April Barton, who helps make my floral ideas come to life. Lastly, I’ve met so many wonderful vendors, who have been nothing but kind and supportive in welcoming me to the wedding industry arena.
