We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Yvonne Briggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Yvonne, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m a proud Nigerian. Both of my parents are Nigerian and so I was raised in the Nigerian and American culture. I’m from Huntsville, Alabama a true Southerner. Growing up in a Nigerian household, you had no choice but to be successful. My parents instilled greatness in me and my siblings growing up. Education in our household was top priority because they k ew success would follow. My parents wanted to make sure that when we left the household that we were prepared to survive the real world on our own. Basically, they don’t want us coming back! Lol. I can say my parent’s encouragement, to become someone great, pushed me and motivated me to become who I am today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I didn’t always have the title “Dr.” in front of my name and I didn’t think it could ever happen. Many people, like myself, have the potential to become successful in all areas of life. For some reason, instead of going after our dreams and reaching our highest levels of success, we allow fear, doubt, missed opportunities, and senseless negative thoughts hold us back from the blessings that God has awaiting us. The devil will fight to see us fail in life but we must not allow it. At one point in my life, the devil fought me, but I fought back, and guess what? I won! The victory was my outcome because my God is bigger and greater than any devil attempting to come after the plans God has for me. God said, No weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). To be honest; Start Now Success, LLC just fell into my lap. I had no plans on starting a business at the time because I had just graduated with a doctorate degree and released my very first book. I needed a break! After writing my book “Start Now” The Starter Guide to Becoming Successful at Anything, I received so much positive feedback and recognition for it, that I said “Why not create a business and help give people more people be successful by promoting success?”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The places I would take a friend in Huntsville, Alabama are Hammer Heads, Tom Browns, Mid City, Blaque Cigar Lounge, Top Golf, Robins Garden Winery or Stellas roof top lounge. Enjoying some nice live music at a nice venue is what I like. Real grown and classy type of fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My appreciation goes out to everyone I’ve encountered. Whether it was my parents, my siblings, my classmates, best friends, or my social media associates, everyone has played a part in who I’ve become. I am so appreciative of all of the support I have received and continue to receive. With the people he has placed in my path, God has truly blessed me. A friend I’ve chosen to remain nameless will always be remembered for pushing me out of my comfort zone and for getting me to stop procrastinating. In addition, I would like to acknowledge my family, Pam, Charles, Chandler, and my parents. The following friends deserve a shout out and a thank-you: Erika, Kristyle, Katrina, Shimena, Tori, Angel, Chiquita, Shuneil, Juneil, Latoya, Keisha, Eneika, Domonique, Angela, Randy, Mike T, and so many others I don’t think it’s possible to mention them all. I am constantly supported by these people and I am grateful for the friendship and support they have given me. Furthermore, I want to thank everyone who has supported my business vision, including Curt Carrington (my photographer). I remember when I asked him for a photo for my book, and since then his work has been instrumental to the success of my business! A special thank you to Jessica Williams and Keen Vision Publishing company for publishing my first book. This vision was seen by Jessica and I can’t believe it came to fruition. For anyone I’ve left out, thank you! I appreciate you! I’m so grateful!
