During times in which uncertainty and stress levels are running high, both personally and professionally I think it is important to remember to treat everyone with respect and kindness. As a female small business owner I expect my clients, colleagues, and staff to treat me with respect, but respect is not just given it is earned. As leaders it’s important we spread kindness & compassion, and practice what we preach. Working in an industry where emotions tend to run high, especially in these pandemic times, I like to remind myself to take a moment to put myself in my clients shoes and make the effort to understand all sides. This quote reminds me that Shirley Chisholm’s advocacy for her seat was the catalyst for many women in politics to follow. When I read or hear something and it resonates with me, I have to add it to the list of my favorite quotes and inspirational messages. Currently, my favorite quote comes from a book I read called Atomic Habits by James Clear. He said, “It is only by making the fundamentals of life easier that you can create the mental space needed for free thinking and creativity”. This quote challenges me to organize and declutter my life, change negative or old habits, and create new ones that align with the woman I am striving to become.
