Meet Ziane Isis | Hair Care Line Owner & Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ziane Isis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ziane, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My outlook on risks? That’s tricky. I think risks can be both negative and positive depending on what the risk is and what position you are in life at that moment. However, I can only speak for myself so I’d have to say the risk that I have taken within this year have pushed me but for the better. And with each risk that I have taken this year has been so frightening. Like I would have moments where I would try to talk myself out of making the decisions I know for certain that needed to be made to get myself where I am now just because I was scared of a bit of change. I am happy to say I was able to snap out of that and I’m even happier to say taking those risks and challenging myself have been life changing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Morena Hair Care is a business that is extremely dedicated to the health of POC’s tresses, that includes quality hair care products and services. Morena is a feminine spanish-derived adjective meaning A woman of a dark/brown complexion. I take great pride in who I am and my hair and so does all the women that surround me. Now when I was growing up, being prideful in our curls, coils, and kinks wasn’t a thing. But women of color have made so many strives from when I grew up to where you just have to accept us for who we are, hair and all, like it or not. And that is what I’m most proud of.. that I’m creating a brand where everything is about unconditional self-love, acceptance, taking care of yourself, all while being bad a** and feeling like your best self because you look like your best self. Having your hair look healthy and looking bomb just brings out the upmost confidence in you. And I’m extremely diverse, my products and services are for all hair types but I find joy in lifting up others who aren’t usually lifted up in everyday society.
I got where I am today business-wise by investing in myself, net working, and just having a really great support system. Trying to build a legacy is never easy but you overcome it because you think about how it’s soooo worth it. You learn many lessons as you go through your business journey and one of the lessons I learned early is too never be scared to help another business out and let them know of opportunities that could benefit them but at the same time, it’s okay to keep some things to yourself and strategize to put your business where it needs to be. I learned how to balance that concept very well over time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmm.. if my bestie was visiting me we would do alot between lazy and fun. I know her first day she would want to relax so we would order food, catch up, have girl talk, etc. After that first day, we are having a ball. I would take her to a waterfall, probably Roswell Mill and just enjoy the beauty of nature. I would take her to plenty of restaurants because I have too many faves. We would definitely have to hit up both Papi’s Cuban & Caribbean Grill and La Fonda because it’s to die for. There’s a Thai food restaurant called Surin of Thailand on North Highland Ave that has the best curry. If she’s in the mood for BBQ, we’re going to Fat Matt’s Rib Shack on Piedmont Ave. We’ll definitely be eating out a lot. For a nice life night scene that’s just genuinely fun and full of real dancing, I would take her to Royal Peacock. You can always count on a good time at a Caribbean club. With it being the holiday, we would probably even go to Callaway Gardens to look at the lights.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, I have to send recognition to my family. My mom definitely had a huge hand in investing me since grade school. She signed me up and paid for countless hair classes and just connecting me to people she felt as though that would be beneficial. My dad has been hands on from his amazing artistic abilities of helping me create my logo to linking me with successful entrepreneurs. My little sister is the best for being in the kitchen with me while creating my organic hair products and helping with packaging.
I have to send a special thanks to my cousin who is much more like my brother, Elijiah. He’s been there from the beginning, from before the dream was a reality, and never doubted my vision once. He’s invested, supported, and made me a better business woman in a sense and I’ll forever be grateful for that. Obviously all of my close friends have been extremely encouraging and their positive energy never goes unnoticed and in return, I show them the same love they show me.
