We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrienne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t like how society consistently portrayed my demographic. It was very cliche. You either fit into this box or that box. Thats simply not how I saw us. As a plus sized women when we can be editorial , sassy, classy, chic , sexy, fun and a plethora of other qualities. It was and always be important to me to speak directly to my women and let her know how beautiful she is and how grateful we are to have her as apart of our tribe. Everything I was looking for in a brand and instilled in Curverra.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What makes me jump out of bed in the morning eager to get my day started is knowing how many women I am empowering everyday to show up as their best self. I love changing and challenging the perspective of what Plus Size Fashion is suppose to be. From your first interaction with our brand I want you to feel excited about life and its possibilities but most importantly I want you to say Yes. Yes to the brunch, Yes to Girls Night , Yes to the date, the trip , the staycation and the event! Yes to making new memories because you are worth it and the world needs your energy. When you feel cute you are unstoppable and I want to make sure as plus size women whether a size 12 or size 24 you know style has no size.

The biggest lesson I have learned is dive into what works for you and what your audience is responding to. As cliche as it may sounds you have to have tunnel vision with your brand. Focus on what your voice is and not on whats trending or what everyone else is doing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When God says Move…Move. I remember when I first started my brand going to an Event that Marie Denee, Creator of The Curvy Fashionista was hosting for Full Figured Fashion Week. I had never gone to an Event Solo before and was so nervous. Literally the week before I had my first brand shoot with Kirk of XL Tribe, I modeled 3 pieces I designed and planned to launch the following week. I remember sitting in the car in the parking lot debating on going in. Then something said go now. I walked nervously and met 2 girls going in we instantly hit it off and realized we were going to the same event and went in together. At the event I remember chatting with Marie and telling her how excited I was about launching my new collection and how I had just started my brand. I jokingly mentioned I even just started my instagram today and showed her my 30 followers as I showed her my 1st pic, a fur coat I designed. Her response was ” Oh no we must change that now” and proceeded to introduce me to the entire room as a fabulous up and coming designer and showed them my jacket, that night I met so many influential people, from Gwen Devoe the founder of FFW to photographers, to bloggers to models all in my industry. As I think back at the night I am so grateful I listened to that voice , so grateful I got out the car, so grateful I met so many wonderful people. But I think back and I am most grateful for God’s timing , remember those 2 girls I met on the way in to the event? One of them was the talented Ja Harris a beautiful plus size model who has been a staple in my brand. From our first official shoot almost 4 years ago to our most recent one she has and will continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
