We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhonda & Latonya Hurst and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rhonda & Latonya, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Being a hairstylist for many years the idea for the product line was a long term goal, I wanted to do and when the pandemic happened we felt it was the perfect time and opportunity to do so to complete this goal.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our product line is WellTre HairCare we specialize in hair growth, we offer shampoos, conditioners, hair oils, and hair maintenance products. Please visit our website. My work consist of a lot of communication, analyzing and research. What sets me apart is I treat my clients more like patients. I do have some clients who are on medications, so I research with the help of my daughter who is a licensed CPHT (pharmacy technician) to see if any of those medications cause hair loss, like Hypertension medications for example. I also try to encourage my clients/ patients to eat healthy, exercise and detox. Which would make my job a little easier. The more meds their on the more hair problems occur. No I am not a licensed MD, but I read and research a lot.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area we would definitely go to these restaurants because I love good food a good atmosphere and meeting new people. Let’s start with the Copper Cove restaurant, Slutty Vegan, Greens and Gravy, Frost Bistro, Hattie Mae’s Barbecue, OLG, Busy Bee and for desserts My Fair Sweets. We would visit some historical sites if she hasn’t visited any before and to end the week Sunday by going to The Tabernacle of Praise Church to shout off all those calories we put on from the week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to Shoutout my mother. She encouraged me to go to hair school and pursue a career in becoming a hairstylist. I most definitely would like to Shoutout my clients whom I ve had the pleasure of doing their tresses for over 30 years. I have to give recognition to my late uncle he believed in me and purchased my first dryer. My mentor Mía Williams-Bey Schand who gave me my first start working in her salon.
