We had the good fortune of connecting with Interstar Salaam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Interstar, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My balance has changed tremendously over time. Instead of working a lot I’ve learned with time to pace myself and hire a team of like minded go getter employees. I’ve set healthy boundaries for myself. I now focus strictly on Sunday and Mondays are my self care day’s. Health is wealth and that does include mentally, physically & spiritually.I stay firm on my self worth and never lower my cost.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been in business for a 11 years servicing the Sandy Springs and surrounding areas. I’m a complete one stop shop to all your home cleaning needs. I specialize in high end clientele homes. Anything you can think of I’m sure my services provided. We offer a wide range of cleaning services as follows. Residential cleaning, commercial cleaning, post construction cleaning, office cleaning. Carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, tile & grout cleaning, car upholstery and interior cleaning as well fogging and disinfecting. Before Covid hit I literally just was in the process of rebranding my company. New van,  new logo,  new marketing new overall face-lift and BOOM Covid hit. It was  extremely hard time for me. I gained some really important clients along the way that put me in front of other important associates. I had to let some clients go for growth purposes as well but it comes with growth. I only got where I’m at because I know my worth and know hard work pays off. I’m extremely passionate at what I’m doing and building. I make sure whoever I doing business with understand my passion and business motto. I look at myself and my business with highest respect and look at my clients the same. I treat each client as if it was my money how would I like the service and train my employees the same. I pride myself on first impressions. My old boss & mentor Pete taught me everything in the carpet cleaning industry at 26. I could remember him showing up to clients home in dress shoes and dress slacks all the time. I was cleaning carpet in million dollar home’s then and I see why now! First impressions is everything. The clients pay attention, trust me. I also worked as a government contractor for a landscaping company around the same time. I was a Quality Control Manger for 6 years. I was responsible for the work being done on time. From tree removal, snow removal, and maintenance of the entire gounds of the base. I was responsible for over 45 employees to 60 employees at time I was traveling back and forth to two bases Naval Weapon Station & Cheatham Annex. I was responsible for a lot having to maintain new hire and fires as well payroll and paperwork that had to be turned in every day. The inspector was hard he would inspect the grounds with a fine tooth comb. It was million dollar contracts and the work performance getting done efficiently and effectively was important. My other employer & mentors taught me sales & public speaking. They also taught me everything in the pest control industry. They really in invested in me I have over 8 certification from them sending me to school for different classes. My certification all differentiate in bugs and pest treatments. I specialize in bed bugs. And fully trained and knowledgeable on termite treatments, moisture barriers, installation in crawl spaces and attics and installing crawl doors and vents. Capture and release of wildlife. Maintaining the the title Route Manager servicing up to 700 clients a month that didn’t want anyone in they home besides me! So as you can see I’m not afraid of hard work and I’m knowledgeable. I’m really the Jane Of All Trades and I aligned all in my business training into one. I’m where I’m at today because I had some really great employers who believed in me and my work ethic. I return that same energy right back in my business and employees. They gave me a lot of opportunities, paid me right and gave me jewels that I utilize still till this day in my business. I’m forever grateful for that great work experience early on in life. So when a new client hires me that ask me about my business I tell them this as well I’m veteran owned.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love going to Nikolai’s Roof, STK & Sage.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dedication goes towards my mother. Unfortunately my business stems from her transition. When she passed away I moved 5 months after and started my business. She always encouraged me and pushed me to no limit.
