We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisha Mauzy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisha, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is providing professionalism, authenticity, and QUALITY! I am very honest with my friends and family, and my clients get that same authenticity. I tell my clients all the time–I am here to see you win…We are on the same team, and I mean that! It’s important that I build a connection with clients, so I do take the time to understand them, and what it is that they are trying to achieve, so I can provide them with the results they need.  There are a lot of questions I have to inquire about to conduct an effective resume—which a lot of people do not understand, but there is always a method to my madness—so trust the process! It is important to me to stay in tune with my detail and skills, because things are always changing, keeping up with the latest trends and what employers are looking for is important to me so that I can continue to provide quality services. Quality is everything to me because I want to ensure people receive results for a service that they pay for. I have to say that is what brings my clients back for other services. I have been successful with referrals as about every one resume I have completed has brought back at least 2 referrals. GOD is really the major factor behind my success, without him I would not have this blessing on my life to be able to provide these services for people and be a blessing to others. He is the reason for EVERYTHING–without his wisdom and guidance, none of this would be possible, and so I am very thankful for being able to do what I do for others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Writing is a skill I have acquired and perfected for the past 25+ years. My mom has an HR background, I would always hear about the horrible resumes she had to deal with, and how people came in looking any type of way for interviews–and that was always something that has stuck with me. In high school and college, we are not taught how to dress for an interview, how to write a resume, or even how to answer interview questions, which has always bothered me. Deciding to start my own business is me doing something about it.

I have been doing resumes for the past 12 years, helping only family and friends, until it became helping friends of friends, and coworkers and their friends the list went on. Last year, I decided to take it seriously and make it my side hustle—that is when LikeaBossResumes was born. Not only do I create resumes, but I also offer services such as resume revamps, cover letters, biographies, notary services, and custom forms. I have big plans for LikeaBossResumes future. I eventually hope to help young adults and students, by making sure they have the knowledge and resources to be able to do their own resume and conduct themselves in a professional manner, while still being themselves when looking for jobs.

What sets LikeaBossResumes apart from other resume services is that I take pride in my clients and my work is very important to me. If you know me you know I will not put my name on just anything. Every client is different, everyone’s background and work experience are different. I do my best to provide nothing but quality work that ensures results. I have found that people doubt themselves so much on their resumes—not realizing that your resume is your the first impression of you. I like to tell clients “Your resume is a commercial, the product being sold is YOU!” I enjoy helping people show themselves off on paper.

I also don’t believe in charging overly high prices. The average cost of a professional resume ranges from $300-2k I just can’t do it, that is not what I am here for. My prices are not cheap but they are reasonable. Although creating resumes is time-consuming, this is my side hustle. I started this business, not for myself but to bless others. I believed the money would come— and it has. What I do is not about making sure I win, but always looking for ways to help others rise and reach their desired goals. I compete with only myself to honor God in the long run.

I cannot say working full time, being an entrepreneur, and being a full-time mom has been easy. But I am blessed and fully rely on God for his guidance and wisdom. I am still building, but I am very thankful for how great my business and success is going so far. I have learned having your own business takes a lot of time, dedication, consistency, multi-tasking, and hard work. I do my best not to overload my plate, and take on too much in the process. I am quick to tell my clients “Hey, I am booked this week but I can work you in on this date.” I do not believe in overworking myself because that only brings on unnecessary stress.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well this is a tough one because I don’t really go out much anymore. I would probably start the day out taking a hike up Kennesaw Mountain (got to get some exercise in). Catch some brunch & drinks at Sun in my Belly. Then depending on the time of year, we would probably hit an Atlanta festival at Piedmont Park, those are always a good vibe. Definitely, Ponce City Market for some food, drinks and rooftop vibes—as well as riding bikes down the beltline. On the weekend, The Battery is always Fun–Yard House is one of my Fav spots to get some food and catch the game. Boogalou is always Lit- I love their bar. Definitely have to hit Dugan’s for some wings. The Broiler for their good seafood…their Crab legs are sooo good. We would also hit Little 5 Points for some shopping and food at The Vortex.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to say thank you to my life partner & best friend Devin. He has believed in me, pushed and motivated me in so many ways to accomplish my goals and dreams. I cannot thank him enough for his love, advice, and support— I love you!!

I would also like to thank My mom, Ronnie, for EVERYTHING she does and all the help, and knowledge and support she has given me! To all my friends, clients, and family for their referrals, sharing of my posts, love and support. I appreciate you all so much!! And of course my #1-Mauzy B who is my motivation and the reason why I do what I do–Mama loves you!
