We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrice Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrice, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Kurvitude was born out of my pain. I lost my mom in August of 2014. After the loss, I was numb and living in a fog of grief. I couldn’t break out of the rut I was in. I decided to move from Ohio to Georgia for a fresh start. Once I got here and got over being homesick I decided to start working on myself. Through the journey, I realized I was not alone and there were many other amazing women going through the same challenges as me. So on December 12th, I started Kurvitude, a Facebook group focused on promoting self-love, self-care, and body positivity. A safe place for us to come together and encourage, motivate and inspire each other.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kuvitude is all about our Kurvy Kuties. In the group, we talk about everything from the challenges we face in that everyday world as women to the challenges that we have that society wants us to keep quiet. One of the issues I had when starting Kurvitude was how do I make sure the group stayed a safe positive place for women. I needed to make sure that regardless if they were in the group or on Kuritude.com they felt comfortable to share and experience the amazing feeling of having a community that understands them. I overcame the obstacle by being vulnerable myself and checking in with the Kurvy Kuties often to make sure they still feel like the brand is still the same. One of the lessons I learned along the way in creating Kurvitude is that although we are all unique like a snowflake we have a lot of the same goal and challenge and as long as I respect that I can offer quality products and services to my customers. Kurvitude = a feeling of self-konfidence arising from self-awareness with a passion to thrive in every situation. A desire to live a life of purpose and to share the beauty of who you are with the world. All while showing off the best kurve you have with your smile.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To my grandmother for being a great model for what type of woman I should be. To my friends and family who loved me when I wasn’t doing a good job of it for myself.
