We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Bourne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Originally my thought process was to start a business so that I could bring in some extra income shortly after giving birth to my daughter.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Originally when I started my business it was to just sell Mink lashes. Unfortunately a couple of months into me starting my business I had to shave off all of my hair due to Alopecia. Alopecia isn’t something I’ve had my entire life. I started noticing a small bald spot appear in the back of my head about 5 years ago but the hair would always grow back. Until it didn’t! I’ve always had a full head of hair so when I had to shave everything off I was very hesitant to go outside completely bald. So I took an interest in wigs! I paid a lot of money for online courses and supplies because I was just that determined to learn how to do everything myself. I just couldn’t afford to go to a hairstylist every time I needed a wig or an install. Once i actually got the hang of wig making and customizing I decided to finally expand my business! In the beginning it was rough because of course I wasn’t making any sales. I would invest in ads and post daily but non of it would work. Then Tiktok came along! That was a game changer for my business! Once people heard my story they wanted to support! Even if it was to just purchase one of my satin bonnets! When the overwhelming amount of orders started coming in I did decide to stop making my wigs myself and I start purchasing factory made wigs. That’s when I realized that my passion was customizing wigs for my customers and Purchasing those factory made wigs just allowed me to be able to get more wig orders out faster.

So far one of the hardest challenges I’ve had to face was dealing with other peoples opinions pertaining to how i run my business. For example I do get some backlash on how I price my wigs. In the beginning it did bothered me but I know now that as a business owner I have to make that profit.

Now I did add payment plans to my site so that anyone no matter what their financial situation is can purchase a good quality wig!

Owning a business has taught me patience. I’ve learned how to deal with all types of customers and I’ve learned how to adapt to a lot of situations. So much can go wrong that i can’t control at times it but I’ve learned to keep pushing regardless because I have so many goals that have not been met!

Although I love all my customers I am still on a mission to have my business reach anyone that is going through what I went through as far as experiencing hair loss regardless of why!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely have my friends from New York experience all of the restaurants we can because we love to eat! For example I’m taking them to a Caribbean restaurant I love called Escovitchez! Now for some fun we would go somewhere like Andretti for indoor go carting and games. Now I am normally always home with my daughter being that I’m a single mom but when my friends are here we definitely will experience Atlanta’s night life as well!
