We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenny, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is that i went to barber school/Cutting Edge Institute. I went to school 7 days a week just like I do in the barbershop 💈 now. I worked, listened , studied, and made sure I had what it takes to go further in my barbering career. Barbering isn’t easy but it’s not hard either. Once I got into it I understand it’s more than just cutting hair. I stayed ten toes down everyday in school and in the barbershops I worked in to be where I’m at now. I work early and late nights . I even still work early and may stay late some days to satisfy my customers and myself. I love what I do is why I work the way I do. My story of barbering is amazing to me cause what I did in the industry is definitely hard to do for some folks of the way I work and move to be successful, not saying it’s not hard to do but it’s definitely not an easy task to take on everyday lifestyle. I foremost thank God for the life, health, and strength to get up and do what I love everyday to make myself and people i cut happy and feel good about themselves.
The success of my brand is me! KENNY’s MAGICTOUCH CUTZ. I built my brand when I first started cutting hair in Atlanta back in 2013. I finished barber school in 7 months at Cutting-edge institute, started a barbershop on Edgewood , worked there for 5 months then went to Decatur for 4 months to start once the barbershop on Edgewood closed down on me. I left Decatur cause it was very slow as far as getting customers in I was losing faith but once I worked on old National hwy where I’m at now it’s been home every since and I definitely appreciate and thank god for the success cause once I built my brand and clientele up it’s been on every since. I actually got a chance to work with top producers in the game that blew up in front of my own eyes and we all was working together just in different ways, whether I was cutting hair or they was doing music we all blew up together in my eyes and I thank god for that opportunity and to be around that different energy. Til this day I continue to work hard and open and close the barbershop 💈. I never give up. I work so hard people ask how I do it. And god makes it happen for you that’s what I say. I continue to move forward and again stay ten toes down cause that’s what got me where I’m at today. My endurance level is crazy big which goes a long way. Never lack, never give up, and always keep your head held high.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The most important thing in my career and business is to work hard and play hard later. Where I’m at today in my career came from working like no ever did before in my industry. It’s always more to do and more to achieve. I stayed ten does down in the barbershop 💈 and never packed or gave up . I probably am the hardest working barber I’ve seen with my own eyes. It’s definitely not easy to do to actually stand on your feet for 12-15 hrs daily but it’s not hard either if you love what you do. The lessons learned is work smarter not harder . Working 7 days a week is hard for most people maybe but to me it’s easy because I been doing it 7 years+ nonstop which is probably crazy work ethic but god keeps me going.
What I want the world to know about my brand and myself is never give up and give your all and if you want it you can achieve it. Effort is everything. And my brand just in the beginning cause I’m achieving new goals everyday which is very personal to myself. Thank god for it all as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be honest I’m not much of the going out type but certain spots would be Edgewood most definitely with bars and bar-hop restaurants and clubs of course. Top golf , Six flags, White water , and the Georgia Aquarium for fun activities with family and friends. I say also check out the Trap Museum , and the MLK Museum as well. Atlanta has a lot to offer .
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I Have to thank God first and formost cause without him I wouldn’t be here today and my my mother as well cause she believed in my dream and I love her so much .
I have to give shoutout to my good friend Que.He came and seen me years ago , took pics of me and videos while i was cutting hair and put me in his magazine he had years ago and had me come to shoots and other projects that I went to for more publicity. His Instagram is @quentesential1.
I also have to thank my friend Jamal @1moneymal_ as well without him certain people wouldn’t know about me either such as Turbo and Matt as the top young producers i cut til this day that’s I’m so proud of in the music industry. I appreciate you Mal foreal on how you bring us all together but also seen the work ethic i had to bring good friends around me to keep us all solid together. Work is busy fasho but it’s all still love.💯✊🏽
I want to give a shout-out to @Turbothegreat and @Mattazikmuzik as well for always showing me love and bringing me around the different energy that keeps my work ethic on level 10 and above. They know my work ethic is crazy which is why We still stay connected and continue to grow together. I most definitely appreciate them for the love and support as well wish them much more success in their industry.
