We had the good fortune of connecting with Taurea Avant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taurea, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision was also knowing that everyone is not going to stay on this journey for me. I also had to learn to compartmentalize those in my life that I loved. When I first become an entrepreneur, I was mad at people who were not ready to jump all in like me and it took me actually losing people in my life that I cared about to understand that everyone in my life is not in my life to be a customer or a business partner. There are some people in my life to just be there with me and love me unconditionally.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

So I actually have two businesses. One is my nonprofit Urban CEO Network which was founded in 2019. URBAN stands for Unapologetic Real Bold Action-Oriented and Nonconforming. The reason why I decided to put Urban CEO together first is because I know that I wanted to create a movement but I’m not looking to compete with other movements. One of my top goals in life is to teach individuals how to be able to effectively work together. With that stated I also noticed that within the Urban Community, many of us are not taking advantage of some of the benefits that are available to us because we simply do not understand it and it can be very intimidating. So I wanted to create an organization that could connect you with other organizations but in a way that is not overwhelming and confusing. Our goal is to be the bridge between the Urban Community and business, career, relationships, finance and wellness success.

My other business is Book Profits Club which is a subsidiary under my umbrella company Show Your Success, LLC. I created Show Your Success back in 2009 initially with the intention of helping individuals to network and grow their businesses. At the time I was a full-time network marketer. In 2014 I decided to leave network marketing and become a full-time coach teaching speakers, coaches and network marketers how to write books to grow their business.

What Separates me from other people in the book world is that I do not call myself a book publisher. We are more than that. We actually want to help authors learn how to generate multiple streams of income with their book. 80% of authors make less than $10,000 per year. One of the biggest challenges that authors have is they write books to sell books vs writing a book to sell. My goal for this year is to help more than 1,000 authors to earn over $10,000 plus per month, week or day.

This journey to being a coach in this industry has not been easy. I want you to understand it takes complete focus. At the time when I first started I was real busy trying to do all type of other businesses and coaching in different areas. When I decided to stop trying to teach an all these different areas that I knew how to teach in and focus solely on teaching speakers, coaches and network marketers to write books to grow their business, my business grew. In fact this was 2018 when I decided to solely focus on book production as well as teaching book promotion, profiting and performance. At that time my business went and quadrupled in growth. Not to mention did we grow but I also work less and impact more people. We’ve created a system where 100% of our attendees who attended our 3 Day book camps are actually writing books and generating multiple streams of income.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is so funny because I literally have specific places that I like to go all the time. For the sake of not having people pop up on me I can’t tell you the exact places because a sister likes to have her me time. However, if my friend came in town of course we would definitely go to one of my favorite hotels that also has a restaurant built-in that is just a Kiki. You’ll meet so many people there and you’ll have some great food. I’m not going to tell you this hotel only because I go there a lot.

Now one of my favorite restaurants is called Chops and that’s located in Buckhead. It’s definitely a high-end restaurant in your easily going to spend about $75. I’ll normally treat my friends so that they can get a chance to have their amazing lobster macaroni and cheese. There is also a really nice Cigar Bar where you are guaranteed to meet some pretty cool people. It’s called The Cigar Bar and it’s located in Buckhead.

Because Atlanta is definitely a party spot we’re going to have to hit up a couple of bars and that could be any day of the week. I also would highly encourage them to come in on a day where they can still be there Sunday because I’m definitely taking them to my favorite Church which is Buckhead Church in Buckhead Atlanta. That church has saved me from some really tough times. Now keep in mind they play Christian rock so if you don’t really like rock and roll and might throw you off but it really is an awesome church.

Outside of the restaurant and bars I would also probably take them on a really nice bike ride as Atlanta has some of the most beautiful views and wonderful hiking spots.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my Urban CEO family and my Book Profits Family. These are the people who keep me going everyday. They are not just clients or team members, they are family.
