We had the good fortune of connecting with Cortney Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cortney, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was able about setting my 3 daughters up for entrepreneurship! My 3 daughters range from ages 13 to 2. It is often extremely challenging for me to wrap my brain around their unpredictable, yet fashionable style. Starting a children’s boutique was perfect in that they are now able to make decisions about product selections that directly align to how their style + personality = individuality!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Principal of an Elementary School. As an educator, I have worked extremely hard to make it this far. I am passionate about Teaching, but I knew I wanted to be able to make more decisions that pertained to the well being of the ‘whole’ child and his or her future. This journey has not been easy, as I am young, Black woman. I overcame the challenges by making sure that I maintain a growth mindset & remains committed to being a lifelong learner. I have learned that one’s education can not be taken away by anyone!
I am most proud of my of my unwavering love for our community and children! Community aspects and the many transitions of children can sometimes be complex. However, the natural connection that I have with our community and children set me apart from others. I am a very open minded, personable, and solutions oriented!
The C3 in our name represents my 3 daughters. The C represents our last name-Cook. I want the world to know that C3 Luxury & Co. aims to ignite students’ love for learning through affordable luxury that reflects how Style + Personality = Individuality! C3 Luxury & Co’s Core Values are Cultivation, Community, & Consistency.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, we would start by having breakfast at Staks Restaurant. Whew, you have to check out their menu. Lunch would be scheduled at HopDoddy. It’s such a cool atmosphere with amazing sandwiches. Following lunch, we would go to the spa; Bow Tie Massage. Everyone deserves pampering! Dinner would take place at Mahogany restaurant because they have live music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my 3 daughters Jayla, Joidyn, & Jaycee. They have been amazing Co-Founders, collaborators, and brand marketers! Their ideas and opinions drive the business & I couldn’t be more proud of their initiative!
