We had the good fortune of connecting with Catherine E Greene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catherine E, how do you think about risk?
I was a shy and safe kid. I was not a daredevil, I was not adventurous. I wanted more for my life, but didn’t know how to make more happen. As I got older and my situation changed, I started taking chances – small things, like moving to Chicago from a small town in Kentucky. That was almost 15 years ago, and that one small step has led to dozens (hundreds?) of other choices I have made. I know – the question was about risks. The more scary the choice, the more I make myself do it. I don’t let myself sit in my “comfort zone” for too long because I don’t want to get stale. I still don’t skydive, but I pursue doing what I love. This business happened to be one – I have never started a business before. BUT, I love this company. I started making skin cream for myself years ago, and I want to share it with others because of the difference I have seen in myself. It’s for face AND body – I don’t like having multiple jars laying around, and I can’t be the only person like that. PURE GREENE skin creams are simple, strong, natural and really, really hydrating.
What should our readers know about your business?
PURE GREENE Skin + Care is just another Covid-19 story, but the product is really good. I have bought some others from various places to compare and PURE GREENE feels better going on and the hydration lasts much longer. I can’t help that – you have to trust me, or reach out and ask for a sample! I had a recipe I was using when I first started making it for myself, but adapted it to the feel I like and added some extra vitamins for skin repair. I love to focus on natural products, because I think they are best for our bodies. I don’t add any vegetable glycerin like some do because it is so sticky and gross! I know it helps maintain texture in heat, but it isn’t worth it (and is a useless additive). It has been a busy year. There was lots of preparation to get the right containers, the right designs and logo, enough ingredients – and that was just in the first month! I learned quickly that I probably should have taken extra time to get all that ready before advertising, but, I eventually caught up.
PURE GREENE Skin + Care will only get better with time – I believe in looking for sustainable options, recycling, taking care of our planet. As we grow, we will add more areas that we can be of help.
The product is strong – I have set up a couple of different scents and a couple of different textures (whipped is a favorite), but have decided to focus on keeping it simple. The choices I have made have been intentional – I like body care that is effective and low-maintenance, and that is what I have set up with these face and body creams.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love food – that is one thing I appreciate about Atlanta. Back BEFORE, my favorite places to eat were Wagaya and Staplehouse. I didn’t go all the time, but they were amazing when we did go. My favorite burger in town is Argosy. My favorite hot dogs are from Grindhouse (especially after a trip to Fetch with the dogs). Favorite chorizo is Elmyriachi (and of COURSE, the Beeritas). I really could go on, but I am sure I have a favorite place for any mood I am in. I have to be honest, though – I am not much of a night person. I do miss concerts at Variety and Tabernacle, for sure, and spending a year at the Fox with season tickets was a load of fun. I guess I like food and music the most? (Ha!)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Forever and always, my idol has been my older sister, Layne. She started taking those Life risks first, and seeing her achieve dreams helped me realize mine can come true as well.
