Meet Sebastian Delascasas | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sebastian Delascasas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sebastian, how do you think about risk?
I think that risk taking is super important in life. Without taking risks, we live in this little safe bubble where nothing happens. I find that it is necessary to step outside the comfort zone in order to actually achieve great things. opportunity is not going to come looking for you. A career in Acting is itself a risk. The risk of “failure” or the risk of not being “good enough,” is something that troubles every actor when starting their career. It is also what dooms many actors from the start. That fear of not taking risks and not putting yourself out of the comfort zone to achieve your goals, will weigh you down. How can you succeed if everything you do is something you are comfortable with? How can you ever learn anything new? I took the risk of becoming an Actor and attending NYU to get a BFA in Acting. A risk that has paid off for me and has helped me tremendously. Risks don’t have to be bad, they have to be important. Taking life making decisions that will shift your life towards your ultimate goal is such a rewarding risk. I think people should be more risk takers. Give it their all to whatever it is they want to do.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been extremely lucky and feel very grateful that I haven’t faced any hardships on my road to success. But with that being said, I wouldn’t use the word “easy” to describe my path to where I am now. Everything you work hard for and put in the time, devotion and energy to will not be easy; how are you working “hard” if it is “easy”, you know? I think with acting it’s a lot of depending on others to give you a shot, which can get frustrating, but ultimately isn’t up to you. I think one thing that sets me apart is being able to let the work go. I understand that you have to work hard and you have to really stand out, but ultimately there are things that are just simply not in your control. Knowing that and working on letting go is something that has helped me so much. I stress less and don’t really worry about auditions after I do them. I will get an audition for something, work really hard on it, do it, then forget about it. Not in my control.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Williamsburg in Brooklyn. I think it’s such a wonderful little area that a lot of the times get slept on by tourists or people visiting who just want to see Manhattan. I would start out at Bedford ave where we could walk around and maybe get drinks and food at the restaurant Juliette. Then we could probably walk to the water and walk around there. It’s really beautiful over there. I also think that one of the most fun things to do is explore new areas, so i would probably find a fun place I haven’t explored and take them there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think so many people deserve recognition and credit. I would not be where I am today without the help of many amazing wonderful people. My parents have always been my biggest supporters and they believe in me more than anyone else. I feel grateful and extremely lucky to have parents like that. They push me and they encourage me to be the best at what I love. I owe them everything. I also want to thank my friend and Acting Coach Brian Bear. Without him I don’t know where I would be. He takes the time and patience to help me out with every audition, and does so with passion and eagerness to help. There aren’t a lot of people like that out there and I strongly believe he deserves a shoutout for everything he has done for me.
